I doubt the Maverick will ever be a hit in Europe. I doubt they’d buy a vehicle that totals out during such low speed impacts.
In a totally expected event, I was rear-ended by a tiny Euro-car overseas. The Mav needed the plastic bumper hammered out and the little (Chevy Spark) was totaled. I wonder if “not” having the hitch helped in this particular case?

Most vehicles sold in Europe are unibody, even light trucks, so I’m not sure where you got this idea.

Saw one of these on the highway today. Maybe a tad bigger then the Mav....smaller than the Ranger. First time seeing one of these. Volkswagen Amarok

While they are "clones" in terms of engineering, they aren't all built in the same place. The factory location depends largely on where in the world you are buying the truck.

1. South Africa (The "Shared" Home)

The Ford Silverton Assembly Plant in Pretoria, South Africa, is the most important factory for this partnership.

  • What's built here: Both the Ford Ranger and the Volkswagen Amarok.

  • Where they go: This plant is the primary source for the European and African markets. It also supplies the Amarok to Australia.

2. Thailand (The Ranger Hub)

Ford has two massive plants in Rayong, Thailand (FTM and AAT).

  • What's built here: Primarily the Ford Ranger.
  • Where they go: Most Rangers sold in Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia come from Thailand. Interestingly, while the Australian Ranger comes from Thailand, the Australian Amarok is shipped all the way from South Africa.

3. United States (Ranger Only)

The Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan.

  • What's built here: The North American version of the Ford Ranger.
  • Note: Volkswagen does not build or sell the Amarok in the U.S. because of the "Chicken Tax" (a 25% tariff on imported light trucks).
4. Argentina (The Regional Split)

The Pacheco Industrial Center near Buenos Aires is a unique case:

  • Ford Plant: Builds the new-generation Ford Ranger for the South American market.
  • Volkswagen Plant: Currently still builds the first-generation Amarok (the old design) for South America.

Perhaps due to a dearth of caffein at the time, I misread the thread title to be
Volkswagen Runamuck..

You beat me to it, I was just going to say that underneath the Amorok is a Ranger. Seeing the OP is from Texas I'm going to guess the Amorok came from Mexico. I doubt Ford would let them sell it here.

My brother owned both at the same time. They were so similar he had no preference.

His Ranger was that same color.

I miss the aluminum wheels of that era.
IMHO those looked way better than any of today’s Maverick wheels.
Nice fat comfy tires, not these low profile on big wheels rigs of today.

Is that a 1917 or a 2027 ULSV (Ultra Light Spartan Vehicle) concept car... 😉

Ford owned a big stake in Mazda at the time, so for them it made perfect sense. Some people wouldn’t drive a Ford if you paid them, so slapping a Mazda badge on it opened it up to new customers, and in some cases different markets.
My Brother had a IIRC 1995 Mazda B4000 Super Cab 4X4 it was a Nice Little truck.

Ford knows how to make trucks. VW does not. VW sells well in Europe. Ford does not.

Simply a marriage of convenience for both. Ford makes the truck and VW slaps their badge on it. Both make money on the deal.
Thanks for explaining that I was confused for a bit with people saying it was a Ford with the VW emblem on the front!! :)

Since 2022, the Ford Ranger and the Volkswagen Amarok have become essentially the same truck underneath. This is the result of a massive global partnership between Ford and Volkswagen.

The two companies formed a joint venture called the "Project Cyclone" alliance. Developing a modern truck from scratch costs billions of dollars. By working together:
Shared Costs: They split the massive R&D (research and development) expenses.
The Lead Partner: Ford took the lead on the engineering. This means the Amarok is built on Ford’s T6.2 platform.
The Factory: Both trucks are manufactured at Ford’s Silverton Assembly Plant in South Africa

If you strip away the metal skin, these two vehicles are nearly 100% identical in the "bones":
Chassis & Suspension: The ladder-frame chassis and suspension setup are the same.
Engines: The Amarok now uses Ford’s engines, including the 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel and the powerful 3.0L V6 diesel.
Transmission: Both use Ford’s 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Technology: They share the same electrical architecture, meaning the large vertical "portrait" touchscreen and most of the software are Ford-based.
