I was offered a similar program through State Farm. I asked my agent if he had it in his car, he said no way! It connects to the ODB port and can see realtime speed, GPS location, acceleration force, deceleration force, air bag deployment, cruise control, automated steering correction and many other parameters. Through the app it can see phone & app use while driving. I have enough Karen's reporting things to the HOA, I don't need that in my car.
That's an apples to oranges comparison. SafePilot is an app on your phone, not a device that's plugged into your OBD2 port.

Has anyone signed up for either of these programs? Could you please give me your feedback positive or negative? My wife and I do not drive a lot. Wife drives a 2018 Honda CR-V with 43K on it. I have company car, so my 23 Maverick purchased 8/23 only has 13K. I am not interested in any "Big Brother" comments. I am an exceptional driver, as work requires to take the Smith Driving class every year and my company car is already monitored with the Geotab GPS monitoring system. I score 100% on a weekly basis.
Thank you,
I have been using the USAA Safe Pilot App for a couple of years.
It has served me very well. I have gotten a 30% discount on almost every billing period since I got it.
You do have to learn how not to screw it up.
1. You cannot touch your phone while you are driving.
2. If you have your phone connected to your vehicles nav system and you use the touch screen of the vehicle, it will ding you.
keep in mind an occasional ding does not eliminate your discount. Enough of them will start to lower your discount amount.
3. There is a minimum of over 300 miles of driving time required per billing cycle to qualify.

There are other details, too many to write but not bad.
It knows if you are speeding, have an emergency braking incident, texting even talking by phone with Bluetooth is not allowed.

But I like it.
You have nothing to loose by using it. The worse case scenario is you are a terrible driver and don't get any discount.

What's considered speeding?

On a side note, I have to pay a road use fee since I have a hybrid. State wanted me to buy a device from them that plugs into the OBD port to track milage. I declined and just pay the fee.

I downloaded the app, but I have yet to use it yet. How do you tell it that you are a passenger? Is it a post trip thing? Are you using it and for how long? I did get the 10% for signing up, but was curious what your discount ended up being as they state that it is "up to 30% off".
Thank you,
Post trip. I have been using it for about a year. Currently our discount is projected to be fairly low. I think it may be due to my wife, a lot of hands free calling. My last car, a VW Taos, had very catchy brakes and I would often get harsh braking. That seems to be way down with the Maverick. Helped by the brake coach.

That's surprising. USAA usually comes in on top for insurance. Customer service is great.
True, great customer service. However if you have a claim AND you weren't at fault, you will pay more for their insurance at some point. I know, I been with them twice, never again.

Isn't that true for all insurance companies though? Rates are going up for pretty much everyone, regardless of their claims history. Insurance companies are paying out record amounts every year now and they eventually have to pass those costs on to their policy holders.

True today, but my experience has been over 10 years ago. They gave sketchy reasons. One was because of our credit and I needed to fix it.(which was in the 800's) They sent me a link to the company they used so I could request a copy. I got 25 pages of gibberish that covered many years. It was easier to just switch insurance companies.
