I’m a 100% disabled US Army Veteran and am getting decals put on my HPR Maverick. I’m trying to decide if I should get the “US Army Disabled Veteran” decal on the hood, both doors, and a smaller one on the tailgate, or the “US Army Veteran” decal, in which I like the lettering better. I’m probably going to get the tanks and my rank on the tailgate, and the flag on the rear quarter panels.

Any thoughts? I’m also trying to decide on a color. White is a very good choice, or a light color. Black just blends in too much.

I'm a 90% DV (working on my 100). My opinion only is not to go with the 100% DV. Stick with Veteran. I wouldn't put too many on - tailgate or hood. I think the doors decals would be over the top and tacky. I imagine FL has plates for DV's (I have CO DV Handicap plates) and that's enough DV for me on my Mav.

I do like the tanks, though I was towed and SP Artillery (FDC) for 20 years. I'd have to put four different decals on to show the systems I worked with...that's just too much.

I have some nice colored metal emblems to put on once I figure out WHERE I want then - 24ID (Gulf War), Cross Cannons, DS/DS Vet and US Army. I did add a small "Combat Veteran Edition" to the tailgate. That's the limit of the "I'm a Veteran" that I'm going to do.

I guess my opinion is that too much IS too much. Again, the above is strictly an opinion.

I would agree with Michael high, over doing something actually distracts rather than enhancing imo

Thanks for the reply. That’s kind of what I was thinking about the Army Veteran one instead of the Disabled Army Veteran one. You’re probably right about putting them on the doors. It would probably be too much.

I’m thinking the tanks on the tailgate should be black? Instead of the M60A3 wording, I might put “Dino Tanker” instead.
Instead of “M1 Abrams”, I was thinking of putting “Jedi Tanker” instead.
I decided to do away with the “Shelby Stripes” as I think that would be too busy.
I still have until the first week of September to decide, as I’m visiting my mom in Buffalo until 31 Aug, then heading back to Pensacola.
Oh yeah, I do have a Florida plate that says “Disabled Veteran” on it.

I Thank you and your dad for your service!! I wish I could have made it 20 years, but unfortunately, I was medically discharged as a Staff Sergeant at 10 years, 11 months, and 11 days. I was on track to make Sergeant First Class the year I was medically discharged. The tanks I was in beat my body up pretty bad. I miss the Army every single day.

Florida supports their veterans! Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Without getting partisan, I encourage everyone on MTC to please pay attention to whether or not your 2024 candidates support our veterans.

Ex paratrooper here. Staff sergeants were the best. They knew how things worked and how to get things done, but they were still approachable by officers and enlisted alike.

I agree with that! I made SSG right at the 6 1/2 year mark. Promotion Points were high for making E5 and E6. I was a. E4(P) for almost a year, and an E5(P) for about the same. Promotions were pretty well frozen for 19E and 19K with 998 being the score one needed. I did everything I could to earn points both times. I earned an AA degree while I was in, almost maxed out the PT test, scored 97 on the SQT, took correspondence courses, shot expert with both the M1911A1 then the 9mm Beretta, shot Distinguished during gunnery, and always had very favorable NCOER’s. I also volunteered to be a Recruiter for three years and earned the Gold Badge and all three sapphire stars. I was right on track to make PFC, but my lumbar and cervical spine injuries, plus two left foot surgeries took me out. Imagine how devastated I was when I found out I was being sent to the Medical Review Board and was boarded out. I had a wife and four young children at the time. I went into a very deep depression and ended up with Separation Disorder, Readjustment Syndrome, Depression with Anxiety and Panic Attacks, PTSD, plus numerous other physical disabilities. I still struggle with being a civilian to this day.

100% P&T here. I refuse to get the DV plates. Had them for a year and I swear people are so much more aggressive on the road around you because they just assume you are old and slow. So I'll second the notion to not show that off.

Personally, I don't show any of it off and the plates issued to me are designated Army plates so I pay a $40 initial fee and nothing there after vs. $400+ every year - it's a no brainer to get them. But if I could chose not to advertise my service on my POV for the same price, I would. I'm proud of my service, but I've seen too many people be made targets because of stuff like this. Hell, even personalized plates are sometimes enough to trigger some folks. Plus, my personal style is pretty bland and boring lol. Just food for thought.

Luckily in Florida, I didn’t have to pay anything for the plate, and my annual registration fee is only $4.

Honestly, I like the Maverick as is. I have Bruce the shark on the back window, but I kinda don't want to add too much more. I'll just let my Disabled Vet tag do the heavy lifting.

However, I have had my eye on the "Combat Veteran Edition" badge.

I understand. I had thought I would stay 24 but the Navy merged Data Processing Techs with the Radioman rate and they were on me about my body fat (even though I could more than pass the PRT!). So, it was time to hang it up, I was approaching 49. Like you, I miss some parts of it but At 74 I'm enjoying my retirement. Hang in there. 😊

This I like. One on each lower corner (?) of the tailgate. The Shelby Stripes are nice, but not with everything else going on.
