My truck gets 2 different readings on outside temp OBC says one temperature and instrument cluster say another, most of the time its 4/5 degrees different. This is no big deal just wondering if it's just my truck or everyone's. For instance, yesterday was 84 degrees outside which was accurate on the OBC, the instrument cluster on my FX4 read 79, are there two sensors? Anybody else notice this or is my truck special !!

Maybe one is using an physical sensor and the other is derived from on 'online source'. Vehicles are always 'online' anymore.

Our home 'smart thermostat' uses the Internet to display the outside temperature from a town that is ten miles away. . .

I believe the Internet temperature is reported by zip code based on gps location mapping or possibly by your smart thermostat getting os temp from your smart meter updated by electric company at whatever resolution they choose to use. Could be from thermometer in my meter readers control box and updated hourly or whenever. I know I can get my hourly meter reading but they could be monitoring my usage and updating usage minute by minute and temp at the same time.

Update two temp sensors one for trans oil entering trans and one for oil temp leaving trans.
Tere is also a temp sensor on each of the field coils of the motors inside the ecvt.

My OUTSIDE temperature gauges, which the OP is referring to, read the same.
