I have added a tailgate light, plugged into the 4 pin and it has disabled some of the BLIS safety features. Is there a work around to add them back since I'm not really towing a trailer? If this has been asked before, I couldn't find it. Thanks.

Good answer but I’m not inclined to spend $100 for a $10 item. Thought there might be a workaround.

If all you want is a tail gate light and not all brake, turning, running lights just connect to the 12v wire on both sides of the bed. If you want just turn signals and brake do not connect the running light wire coming out of the 4 pin to anything. (If all 4 wires are not connected the truck doesn't think a trailer is attached!). Also you can buy the curt relay for less than $100 at etrailer. When I was in high school a brand new six cylinder auto with heat and AC was $1800 which was not as well equipped as an XL maverick. Makes a $100 item less than $10 in actual value. Of course McDonald's mini burgers were 6/$1 on Wednesdays special. When I was 11 my first job paid $12.50 plus lunch/5.5 day week during summers.

On BIGGER trucks with tow package there is a way I read about.

In those "other" trucks with tow packages there is a setting for trailer length. If you set trailer length to zero, all your features are left active.

Don't know if the Maverick is sophisticated enough to have a trailer length setting deep in the bowels, but I doubt it.

I second the motion to tap the lights instead. Adding more load (without breeching the fuse limit) usually hurts nothing. Reducing load, swapping incandescent to LED for example triggers burnt out bulb warnings and such.

The truck throws error codes if more or less current is drawn than designed. So you have to use relays on existing circuits to activate additional lights powered by a separate hot wire. Easiest is curts pre built setup.

No. This is bad information. I've successfully done it in my 22. What I said was correct.
But thanks for posting without even trying it... I guess.
