I just traded my new 2024 Maverick Lariat 5k miles with towing package due to towing issues. When towing my 24' pontoon on a bunk trailer, the Maverick's size became a factor controlling the trailer. The trailer is within the weight capacity, but the 30' tandem-axle, bunk trailer with the boat loaded was too large for the small pickup and swayed too much at 50-60mph speeds.

Lesson learned. Make sure you consider all you will be doing with a little pickup before an accident happens. Luckily, I got a good deal and didn't lose too much trading now.

Otherwise, the Maverick handled pulling the trailer out of the lake well and gets great MPGs. But, size also matters.

Sway is caused by improper weight distribution, not enough tongue weight. Has nothing to do with the weight or size of the tow vehicle.
That too. But weight distribution was not the issue. Turning on curves, the tandem axles were trying to stay straight and pushing the little light-weight pickup around. I did not have this issue with any of my past pickups, only the small Maverick. I've had the boat-trailer for 10 years.

BTW. I am a professional truck driver with over 1.75M miles of experience.

No, but thankfully no accidents. And not to costly to trade up. I just posted this to make other people aware...

Do you think it would be good towing an 8 foot wide 21 foot long 3000lb travel trailer?

then one of your previous posts has me confused

"I have the 2024 MAV Lariat AWD w/towing pkg. I towed my SIL's 19' boat over the weekend, about 2400 pounds. Up and down hills on blacktop, it towed 54 mph when cruise was set at 55 mph going uphill.

Using the "Tow/Haul" setting on the trans, the trans downshifted to brake assist going downhill.

Next weekend I'll be moving my 24' pontoon on a 2 axle bunk trailer with pulse brakes, about 5200 pounds. But a much shorter distance, about a mile to the launch ramp."

I'd say towing a 30' long 5,200# rig with surge brakes, with a 4K Mav wasn't the best move. Better luck with your new setup.

Not the hybrid. It's rated for 2000 lbs.

AWD like mine with towing pkg is rated for 4000 lbs.

A 3000 lb camper will likely be close to 4000 lbs once loaded with stuff and propane tanks and water.

But, consider things like single axle vs tandem axle, and size of the whole rig in a wind. A 21' camper is 30% smaller than my boat trailer with boat loaded on it and I was uncomfortable with mine.

Also, Talk to your camper dealer and hitch professional. I hear no one recommends using an anti-sway hitch on a unibody pickup.

Not 5200lbs, more like 3600-3800lbs. that was a fat-finger.
