Hello. What is the max hitch weight that a FWD 2.0l can carry? Would it possible for that truck to tow a 12ft cargo trailer weighing 1900 lbs? Thanks for the help

Without the 4K towing package, your max is 2,000 lbs total towing capacity. Search this forum using terms like "towing" etc, there are lots of previous threads with detailed info. Different factors can affect the tongue/hitch weight capacity. There are numerous factors, weight in cab, i.e. people, cargo, the shape of the trailers wind resistance, etc that should be factored in. I attached ford towing guide, but be sure to look for other details previously posted. Also consider the roads and distance, Hills/Flat, etc. Hopefully others will comment with additional details/info.

Another BIG thing to consider is can you Stop it. The little truck can technically pull more, not that hard since the weight is rolling on wheels, too much weight can push the truck (probably not the best words/terms to use) but hopefully you get the point. Does the trailer have trailer brakes and 7 pin connector for wiring to the truck. Assuming you have the factory trailer hitch which comes with a 4 pin connector and NO trailer brake controller. Just remember the weight behind you when in traffic, etc.

Good post. Most worry about the weight and not the most important part the Brakes.

Please, if you get behind a white Maverick with NY plates, honk and flash. If I see a Maverick, your color with a trailer, I'll gladly pull off to let you by. I'm as nowbird November-April, (can't get wife to retire), so the rest of the year, not a problem. Generally speaking, pulling is seldom the problem, stopping, cooling and chassis strength are primary. Your empty trailer is close to maximum.

Hitch weight: 400 pounds max.

While hitch tongue weight should be 10% minimum and 15% maximum of total trailer weight, all the trucks had the same hitch. At least at the time I bought mine they did.

Yes you can pull that. But consider stopping power and double your stopping distance if you do not have trailer brakes present and properly attached to a brake controller.

It’s payload, hitch weight, tow weight.

i had a F259 diesel, fifth wheel RV, and its hitch weight in the bed adds to payload total. Payload is folks, fuel, stuff in back bed.

Towing via rear mounted hitch up is usually minimum to total values.

Towing is what truck can pull, and stop. A trailer having brakes helps. Truck should be selected to ”tow mode “ if equipped. Better for engine and transmission.
