I do enjoy the electric steering and how nimble the truck is.

My Miata corners better. Flat out acceleration my Odyssey sounds better.

But wife and I 'fight' to drive mav. :)
I solved the wife issue. First, she drives a Toyota C-HR which she loves. Second, my Mav is Cyber Orange. She hates the color. The Mav is all mine!😂

I was pleasantly surprised by the FWD Hybrid's driving dynamics, as most of the FWD vehicles I've owned over the years had a solid rear suspension, as did the older RWD and 4x4 Envoy. Heck, in reality only my 86 Escort & 12 Outback had an independent rear suspension. Ford apparently did wonders with the twisted torsion bar suspension used in the Maverick, making it extremely stable and confident inspiring when driving.

For suburban driving the Hybrid drivetrain is also smooth & responsive, only the Flat-6 in my Outback felt this smooth, with nice low-end torque from a stop. It's an enjoyable driving experience, both locally and on the highway.

Your Miata and maverick might share the same heart. The 2.5 4 cyl in the maverick hybrid was used in many Mazda's, including some generations of the Miata. I want to say the early 2000s Miatas had that engine. Very reliable powertrain overall. You probably know that already, but in case you didn't, it's a pretty cool detail.
Not to doubt you, but it seems strange to me that the Miata would have an Atkinson cycle engine.
Are you sure on that?

I don't know the engine block origin but Atkinson Cycle can be applied to multiple engines. It's a function of cam, injector and ignition timing.
some examples
Chevrolet Volt.
Chrysler Pacifica (front-wheel drive) plug-in hybrid model minivan.
Ford C-Max (front-wheel drive / US market) hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner/Mazda Tribute electric (front- and four-wheel drive) with a compression ratio of 12.4:1.

The hybrid's 2.5 is a mild evolution of Mazda's L series engines, the L5 specifically. This 2.5 was very common to Mazda's back in the day. The Miata used to have a 2.5 inline 4. I'm fairly certain it was the same engine with some tweaks, but I could be wrong.
