First vehicle I bought new (50+ years ago) was custom ordered from a Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealer and took about 4 months to arrive.

When picked up the Maverick in mid-March of this year the lot at the dealership was nearly bare. On the showroom floor was a lone Bronco, with prominent SOLD signs displayed on it. Flash forward to a couple of weeks ago. Was there to have the crankcase recall taken care of, when the same lot was filled to capacity (excluding Mavericks).

Sitting in the showroom (no waiting room in the service department), parked inside were a Bronco Sport Badlands (red), a Mustang Mach-E (red), an F-150 Lightning (white) and a Super Duty Tremor (blue). Meant to check the window sticker on that last one purely out of curiosity to see if the bottom line said "price continued on next sticker."

I bought this truck in 1993 brand new it has 265,000 miles on it now. The problem is gas prices. I miss $2.00 gas. Us old guys pass vehicles down to are kids if you take care of them. The current shortages are all part of the master plan.

I wish they still offered your wheels.

When you slam the brakes on the economy, it takes time to recover. History is going to call the 2020s a lost decade economically simply just trying to restart from the pandemic shutdowns. Opportunities for those savvy enough to see them but brutal to those that aren't managed properly.
100%
Car buyers and the industry as a whole aren't helping the situation...average car payment is over $700 and it's been estimated that 15% of all car loan holders have a payment over $1000.
People wondering where the supply is? It's in the driveways of a lot of folks who can't afford a new car. You hope for the best, you don't want to see your friends and neighbors go broke, but the low-interest no down payment money giveaway has given folks who are prone to overspend a lot more incentive to do so. People are free to do what they like, but the repo man is going to be busy soon.

The way it's going, we'll have to get accustomed to predicting our new vehicle needs 2-3 years in advance.
