Thats why I like the height of the Thule rack. Once you add an accessory like that Kayak carrier, ski rack, ect, it's at the perfect height.

Thule Xsporter Pro Mid with side bars installed

From everything I'm seeing, the Xsporter Pro Mid only comes in 1 height, 16 inches. Are you saying it came with 2 different sets of height bars on yours, or that there are at least additional ones available?I do want to mention you can have these side bars in a few different heights. I currently have it at the highest but will probably move it to the mid position when I mount my rotopax.
Actually I see now after reading again it's the sidebar height only you mention. I've been going back and forth over which rack based on height so I got excited thinking this one had a few more options.

Unfortunately you cannot adjust the height of this, but you can purchase different height Thule racks.
It looks like there is some adjustable options. For me, I had the discount with Thule and know Thule quality so that's why I went this route and am pretty happy so far. Adjustable sounds very nice though, just gonna cost more.

So I am debating. The difficulty of implementing a tonneau cover, vs cheap local used availability. I found a set of these used (no side bars) for $400...tempting. Since I don't plan on keeping them mounted full time, maybe I can make it work for the kayak days with the tonneau rolled up

I get Thule products for 50% off through my work so I had a large incentive to make a Thule set up work with this truck.
I installed a Thule X shorter pro mid with the side bars.
The top bars stuck out quite a bit so I trimmed 8 inches off the top bars with a hand saw.
The side bars also come in 2 sizes and are either too big or too small. They don't have telescoping bars like Yakima. I trimmed these to length after installing the main rack.
Really like the set up and is very functional! I will post some more with the rooftop tent in the spring.

I recently installed the Xporter Pro on my truck as well, and noticed that the plastic molding between the mounting plates has bent up. Looks like yours have done that as well. So I would just buy the longer ones and trim them down since they are the same price as the shorter ones. I just cut them by hand with a metal fine tooth saw from Harbor freight. Pretty easy since it's aluminum. All the plastic caps will still fit on the ends of the trimmed aluminum.
I trimmed all these mounting bolts by about 20mm so they wouldn't interfere with the tie down system from Ford.
Utilize the slots with T slot hardware.
Old thread, but wondering about fuel economy after this Thule truck bed set up was installed. Any decrease in MPG?
