Thoughts on Ford modular bed liner?

I decided do go for the Ford modular DIBL. FordPartsPros has it for $305 plus about $27 shipping, no tax. I like the look and will install it myself.

If you have an XL there are other parts you need to order in order to install it besides the DIBL. Lots of other parts and maybe some tools.

Like what? I have a jig saw, hole saw blades and will probably get some extra 3M tape.

My installer didn't cut out the 2 little doors for the 12 volt pigtails and also didn't cut out the other panel (opposite the storage cubby on the passenger side) which might be good to install a second door/cubby. I've seen some cool electrical additions (cigarette lighter, USB ports, etc.) added to the cubby door using the 12v pigtails for power. I plan on adding some similar components using these 12v connections soon. Maybe the pigtail covers don't need to be accessed to add the electrical components though?

I don't even own a mav but did watch the video of that guy who put one in his XL. He got a few extra things to add tie downs BUT it wasn't much. So doing it yourself looks very easy to me. Another guy said they didn't bother to cut the wholes for the bins. in back on the side Not acceptable to me. I would make sure they will do all that before i had it done.

I‘m no expert, but I’d certainly think that electrical access is needed to add USB/DC power.

Thanks for that, I already have the d-rings and will probably add side rails.

The 12v pigtails are right next to the cubby (s). Installing the electrical components in the larger cubbies must have inside access to the 12v wire before it goes to the little cubby with the pigtails since there are no wires visible inside the bed. That's why it's probably ok to cover the doors over the 12v pigtails with the bed liner.

I got the DIBL and am very happy with. Others who have seen it are amazed at how well it fits, looks and thickness. It’s perfect for me.

So had my Ford DIBL installed today. Ordered it online at accessories.ford.com (along with a few other things) paid for it, paid for installation and had everything shipped (for free) to a nearby dealership.

Paying online for the installation is a GREAT idea, BTW. After the bed liner was installed the service manager was adding up the labor charges. I said "I already paid for those online". Showed him the confirmation email from Ford and was done. The service manager was going to charge 1.5 hours on the DIBL and IDK how many hours I paid for, but the charge was only $60 installation. I doubt the dealership's shop rate is $40 an hour. So order online and pay for installation at the time you order. You WILL save $$.

When I ordered online Ford was doing 20% off. So I paid $392 total - $332 for the DIBL and $60 installation. And I have the Ford Hard roll up tonneau cover. They had to remove that and then reinstall (which did not take them much time. Appears to just clamp on)

I have an XL. I do need to purchase a couple of D Ring bolts to the floor. Floor piece is cut out for them. Everything else was there. I thought a lot about the side bin things on the back. I decided to cover them up. I'm sure many would choose otherwise. But I'm not going to be adding lights or a cigarette lighter or an inverter back there. I'm not that guy and I'm not sure why a truck bed that size EVER needs lights LOL. And extra cut outs just seem like places for water and dirt to accumulate.

Hopefully I will be able to answer your question in the first person in a week. I'm scheduled to get the Ford Modular bed liner installed next week.

Various videos I looked at on YouTube people seemed to like it. Most of the videos were focused on installation but all of them I watched the people making the video were happy with fit and quality. If you order online you can also select a dealer and pay for installation. Which was only $60. So screw my spending half a day or more doing it myself LOL.

If you want a Ford bed liner our options are pretty much this. The one piece drop in- while a build option - is not offered for sale at Ford's accessories website. I probably would have purchased the one piece drop in if offered because it just seems like it would be more sturdy and waterproof. But Ford says the modular fits more closely to the contours of the bed.

I personally do not like spray in bed liners. The are rough on the knees and hands if crawling around in the bed and every Spray In I've seen that was say 5+ years old looked faded and just....tired. Meanwhile my 24 year old Ford Drop in bed liner in my F150 still looks pretty darn good. The plastic modular/drop ins also offer protection against dents and dings, while the spray ins are essentially just protection from scratches and rust. For those that prefer spray in's, that's cool!. Choices are good!!

Late to the conversation. These drop ins look much better than the one piece style I have in the Ranger (actually blew out on me on the highway once, but I digress). I may go this direction.

Just to clarify -- I have an XLT coming so I will not need any additional hardware to install it? Also, will the liner impede the installation of other bed accessories like a hard tonneau?

I don't think you'll need additional hardware to install it.

Looks like I know what I'll be doing with my bed now. The modular will be just fine for me. But I did have a question after reading everyone -does it mean in order to get to the cubbies, you need to cut into the liner? same for the little access points with wiring? Thanks!

Yes, you will need to cut for cubby, inverter/light, bed extender, and if you want access to add 12 volt outlets. A jigsaw is good. I cut mine with a variable speed Dremel and a plastic cutting blade. A little tedious but worked. You will also need to cut holes for the tie downs and if you plan to install the cargo management system so you'll need two sizes of hole saw bits.
