I have an Oxford White XL reserved. Only option I got was spray in bed liner. I'll definitely be painting the steel wheels black.

1. That only applies if you are buying this vehicle with the intention of reselling it soon. I bought my 2004 Tacoma new, and sold it last November, 16 years later.

2. That additional $2285 can be used to buy you own upgrades and accessories, if you wish, or even better be put towards something more important to you than your car, if you aren't a car person.

3. I can accept that cruise control is a must for many people. FOR ME, I have owned 5 cars in my lifetime, all had cruise control, and I couldn't tell you how to activate it on any of them. It is of no value in traffic congested city driving. 99.9% of MY driving.

4. I don't lease. No response.

5. So what, use the $2285 you save to modify it so it doesn't look like a fleet vehicle. The wheels come off and $2200 can buy you some different ones. As long as you don't buy a white truck and slap a sticker on the door, why would anyone think it's a fleet vehicle.

6. 15 or 20 years from now I'm not going to care about resale value, but if I do consider this, if I can get the same 16 years 205,000 miles I got out of my Toyota Tacoma, at the MSRP of my XL ($23,885) that's a little under $1500 a year, 12 cents a mile. That's more that my money's worth even if I put it on blocks in my backyard until I'm ready to be buried in it. That's where my Tacoma would be if people hadn't been begging me to buy it. Anything you get for a vehicle at that point is profit.

I AM writing this to let XLT and Lariat trim buyers know that none of us is buying a Cadillac or BMW, this truck is certainly not going to be a status symbol. The trim levels are not an indicator of quality, they are only an indicator of the accessories you chose to add. The trucks are identical. I could choose to add any or all of the accessories a Lariat has at a later time. Also consider this, aftermarket accessories, are going to come out for this truck. My truck is a blank canvas I can add things later that could make my XL better than a Lariat. I just hope to bring up some points, that there is no need for trim level shaming here. I don't care that "nobody is going to get the base model" because somebody did get it. I DID.

Great Post. I couldn't agree more.

XL all the way for me. It's going to be my work truck for my window cleaning business. After scouring the used market and seeing the rising cost of gas, stumbling across the Maverick a month ago was a no brainer.

I don't need cruise control - my current work vehicle is a Ford Transit Connect with cruise control that never ever got used. Don't even know if it still works!

And I don't need what I consider "froofy" upgrades like heated seats, heated mirrors, rear cupholders, etc. I started out on 'no frills' vehicles and this will be a welcome return to that for me.

I did get the CoPilot360 package because I'm admittedly a terrible driver and I'm hoping this will help me out a little bit!

I may occasionally tow a little luggage trailer that houses my pressure washer.

My package:

XL Hybrid
Cactus Grey
CoPilot360
Hitch receiver

Nice spec. You got what you needed and thats it. By the way that Hitch Receiver is a smoking bargain .

Is anyone planning to paint the wheels? I'm getting a carbonized gray and thinking of painting it black or similar.
What kind of paint would you use on the rims?

This is exactly why I ordered an XL AWD. There is a ton of value in the XL Package. Plus I like the black interior better than the XLT. The steel wheels are the best looking wheels out of all of the offerings. Lastly, I did not want to spend more than 26k. How do you add cruise control afterwards? That is one thing I am going to have to add. Any suggestions would be great!
I used a brick in my old Jeep Wrangler

Thanks. Yeah I basically walked into the dealer and said - I like 2 things about this truck, the low price and the great gas mileage. I don't want to do anything to change either of those. He respected my wished and was very helpful.

I agree! I had my Transit Connect fitted with an aftermarket receiver and it cost me a heck of a lot more than $100 I can assure you.

What's your spec?

Order:
XL hybrid CG
400W - really not sure this is worth it, some comments it will not even power a lap top!
Mats
Hitch
360 - only thing I had to have for safety.

A few comments on this topic:
I have to pinch myself to believe I can get all this for about $22K OTD! Now if I can actually take delivery this year.....
Last car I purchased at this price point was a 2005 Camry LE that I'm now selling with 337K miles.
Per my avatar, that '87 Ranger is about as XL as you can get, even no AC. I have purchased several cars w/o cruise; even my 2003 350z base model, no cruise. From the pics, I much prefer the interior colors of the XL to anything else I have seen for the Mav. When it gets some miles on it in 6 years, I could see it being a great first truck from my boy / girl twins. I will be using it for a 100 mile a day commuter.
Dang Fred, Nice 87 Ranger. I had an 86 4WD auto. Loved that gas hog.

So the 400 watt inverter is plenty adequate for a lap top. Typical 25 watt lap top with a typical 40 amp hour battery (I'm guessing the Mav will a battery like that) will give you about 20 hours. That's enough to check Maverick Truck Club each day.
Now running the full 400 watts will be 33 amps and will drain the battery in a little over an hour. This will generate a lot of heat and is very bad for the typical car battery.
None the less, the 400 watt inverter is a fair deal for $150.

In case anyone is interested in an alternative:

I'm a ham radio operator and am passing on Ford's power system for my own. The RF generated by ham equipment tends to create problems with modern car electronics anyway.
20 amp line connected directly to, and fused at, the battery. This runs to the rear storage cubby and connects to my "battery box" which has Anderson Power poles, 700 watt 120v inverter, 100 amp hour LiFePO4 battery, and all the transistors to keep everything connected to and isolated from my car battery. This is a bit over a grand but a full on power system for full on emergency communications. I'm getting a 2.0 but with a hybrid the sky would be the limit on what could be built.
For much less cost, with manual switching, a similar power system is easily in reach for the average DIYer!
