Back in September I crunched my rear bumper helping a friend move (pic below). First fender bender in 40 years. Local body shop quoted me $1300 to paint (Velocity Blue) & install a new OEM Lobo bumper. Little did he (or I) know how impossible it would be for a body shop to procure a Lobo rear bumper…
He based his quote on the Lobo rear bumper part# (which is incorrectly the same as the normal rear bumper….$600 wholesale & $650 - $799 retail).
He received a bumper within days. That seemed awfully quick - so I asked him to double check the pic I sent him before painting/clear coating. Yep - the Ford Lobo part# was the standard bumper, so he returned it before painting.
I took a heat gun & touch up paint to pop out the dent slightly - while he continued to search for the correct Lobo bumper.
He finally located one in a Texan junkyard - Velocity Blue even. But since I’m happy with my half assed repair, I told him to paint it satin black.
He said he had to pay $980 delivered for the junkyard bumper but stuck to his original $1300 quote painted. I’m going to install (maybe) myself. The junkyard bumper included the sensors & plate light harness which I’m sure is a few hundred bucks OEM.
Anyway, I now have a black bumper on my garage wall (part# pic 2) and my original slightly dented Velocity Blue bumper on my truck…
