Stopped by my friendly local small town Ford dealer today to see if the Maverick stock unit they ordered came in yet. It's still scheduled for production or being built. It's XLT w/lux, FX4, full size spare a couple other options. It wasn't there and I've been having a couple lingering doubts about the 2.0 + 8 speed that I wished to resolve so asked to drive another model as many people have suggested driving turbo Escape AWD or Bronco Sport to get a feel for the drivetrain. I remembered that the 2022 Edge SUV has the 2.0 Ecoboost and AWD and they had 1 on the lot. They let me take it by myself
I did a mixture of hwy and surface streets and residential driving. Gotta say I was really impressed with the power delivery and feel! No noticeable torque steer at all (I can put that issue to rest now) and barely a hint of turbo lag when you stomp on it. Very smooth acceleration and really scoots up to 60, 70 MPH. Somebody said the 8 speed trans was a butchered up result of 9 speed partnership with GM that didn't work right? Not what I experienced. Shifts like butter and always seemed to be in the right gear with no hunting like my F-150 10 speed trans.
My Conclusion was this is a really solid hi performing combo- even better than my Grand Cherokee with V-6 and 270 HP. Now if I can just drive the actual Maverick equipped like this I'll be sold and ready to place my order
