Replaced the rear speakers with Morel Maximo 4" coax. Removing all the trim back there was a challenge the first time even with watching video instructions and installing both took me another 4 hours.

The 72-5600 adapter does work for this. You might need to bend the pins with a screwdriver slightly to make it all line up. Also make sure to take a look at the wiring diagram and look at the colors for 6 speaker system for this one as these are powered directly from the head unit. (hopefully I got this right)

Right rear speaker + green/violet
Right rear speaker - gray
Left rear speaker + gray/violet
Left rear speaker - brown/green
Diagram I found on the forum somewhere:

There's a large gap compared to the stock B&O speaker that they had filled in with foam

Weather stripping and painter's tape. I'm sorry for how it looks, but I didn't want to have it touching the surround on the speaker's woofer.

Bonus, I swapped out the wire for the sub with a 72-5600 as well instead of the one that came with the truck. I noticed some air coming out from the sides of the enclosure so figured now was the time to tighten it up. I added some insulation around the inside edge of the enclosure and then some silicone putty in the protrusions out the side.

Overall sounding really great. When I finished installing the first one I was panning left and right and the B&O speakers were super muddy in comparison. The Morels were actually a bit lower in volume, but much clearer and more detailed.

So 4 speakers replaced, 4 to go!

But Professor Engineering accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction... Chemical F. Thus, TruckPrius was born!
I drove our Prius as a Truck, a Pruck if you will, for several years before the Maverick too. Dealership was only going to give the wife $1500 for it so I kept it, drove it for a couple years, then sold it when I got the Mav. An 8ft ladder fit inside the Prius with no passengers. So I grin a little at people finally buying a Hybrid now, and also grin at people complaining about the Maverick interior being cheap when Prius and even Saturn before them already did that. So the Maverick feels pretty luxurious to me and I finally have some bluetooth technology in my car.

Got Forscan and this bluetooth adapter Vgate vLinker FD+ and added:
  • Climate control display swap from an ICE Escape LJ6T-18C612-GD
  • Disabled double honk on exit
  • Remote windows open/close
  • Traffic sign recognition enabled (need to road test it still)

Ford Maverick Taco Truck + Prius = TruckPrius 1703216562214

Swapping out the two buttons was easy though, as others have mentioned, there was a moment where I thought I snapped something. There's a clear plastic piece that brings the light to the front of the button that seems to be slightly glued in but everything is still functional after programming the HVAC module with my "As Built" data via Forscan.

Couldn't sleep so decided to finish up my speaker swaps. This Metra 82-FD1 adapter kit included both 6.5 to 6.75 adapter and the correct wiring harness adapter.

I found a set of new Morel Maximo 6 MKII on ebay for ~$95. Slightly different than the original Maximo 6 set with a different crossover, but as far as I can tell the amp is doing that job and I didn't need to install any. This version apparently is only sold in Australia or something. The materials look slightly different than the original version but it still gave me the more bass/mid heavy tone I was hoping for after auditioning various brands on Crutchfield's SoundCompare tool.

For the tweeters I was able to use 72-5600 by bending the leads inside the adapter slightly. The tweeter's were something like a quarter inch wider in diameter, so I needed to trim back some plastic that the stock speakers were mounted on. I think it is all reversible still if I ever needed to for some reason.

Did a quick sound test driving around and man does it all sound clear and smooth now. No more tinniness, significantly reduced ear fatigue at higher volumes, and hearing a lot of details now that were muddied out before. I had ordered some sound deadener but honestly hearing minimal vibrations without it and I'm not sure it's worth taking all apart again personally.

That's the end of my audio upgrades and I'm pretty pleased with the result. All in price of about $393 for what now feels like a pretty premium sounding system.

  • Morel Maximo 6 MKII 6.5" component - $95.36
  • Morel Maximo Coax 4 - $94.44
  • Dayton DCS165-4 - $68.83
  • Dayton ND91-8 - $35.95
  • PVC 6x9 to 6.5" Adapters - $30.11
  • Metra 72-5600 x4 - $23.49
  • Metra 82-FD1 - $17.99
  • Goldwood Subwoofer Grille SWG-6C - $16.95
  • Benliudh Car Door Fast Rings - $9.99

Finally found my dremel and took a crack at the trailer hitch area cover NZ6Z-17F000-AB.

Used the measurements found here. Removed the four 7mm screws on the bottom side of the rear bumper to loosen it up and give enough room to slide lip behind the bumper while lining up the outside facing part. Needed some creative flexing to get it into place.

They're pretty tight measurements and I must have been off 1/16" the first time and had to pull it all back out.

If I had to do it over again, I'd put painters tape on the visible areas that surround the hitch itself so it doesn't scrape when you try to slide it in place. You can see in the after pics where I scuffed up the plastic, but I don't think it's too noticeable unless you're looking for it.

Kicker HS10 installed behind rear seat with pieces cut from a dollar tree pool noodle underneath and a trimmed kickboard behind it. Cargo strap securing to some unused slots under the plastic trim, seat latches fine. Used a Pac APH-FD02 adapter to split off just the sub signal. Cut up the cup holder insert for a mostly flush spot for the remote and just ran the wire under my floor mats.

Not perfect, but no cuts to the vehicle or wiring. Significant increase in bass. Interested in seeing if I can use forscan to remove the high pass filter on there.

Forgot to add this before for some reason, but I got this light strip installed a few months back.

Ford Maverick Taco Truck + Prius = TruckPrius nightlight

Taking cues from @OXHB619 in his writeup I installed this LED strip in a non-destructive way:

Cool music video 😂 (from before I repositioned the lights to face downwards like @ThomasToo here)

5000 miles reached!

Pretty good MPG coming out of winter and up from 37.7 MPG at the 1k mark. Looking forward to the summer measurement.

Mainly have been playing with the audio lately. I'm trying to dial in the Kicker and think I'm close, but sometimes sounds like it's a bit distorted. I also snagged an unused set of Morel Maximo 6 components to swap out the MKIIs with. Found the clips (W720456-S300) that are needed to replace the ones I dropped/broke from someone else's post and will wait for those to come in and revisit the fronts.

1 Year / 10K mile update

Still love this truck, still having fun doing stuff to it when time allows.

No issues so far, got all recalls done at the 10k servicing (sync updates, taillight sensor, something else?) My forscan changes did not get reverted as far as I could tell.. so either they didn't do them or it doesn't always wipe everything?
