SYNC won't let me make voice calls or texts

It keeps complaining that 1. Contacts are not downloaded, OR 2. Sync does not have access to your messages. Both are false. Contacts are downloaded and I can dial by selecting one. Sync also displays incoming messages just fine. I just can't do anything with voice commands. I've done all the usual reset stuff. I've triple checked permissions on each app. I've deleted the phone and readded it. Nothing helps. I'm taking the truck to the dealer next week but if anyone has any fixes prior, please enlighten me. I'm on Android. FWIW, this stuff works just fine on our Subaru Crosstrek.

Go into your phone's settings then apps. Find Android Auto. Clear your cache and data. Try again.

That did nothing. Same problems. Sync doesn't have access to messages and contacts are not downloaded. Nothing to do with Android Auto on the phone.

My dealer set my phone up for me without me even asking.
They might also be able to step you through over the phone.
I had an issue they addressed that way. It doesn't hurt to ask.

In my case last week it started a weird thing were I get *either* phone/music *or* android auto.

This means I can navigate, answer calls and texts I get but I cannot call/text anyone. Only respond. To call or text someone I have to go to the phone list and switch from AA to phone.

It was working great earlier. I'm going to see if I can purge/reconnect my phone and see if it works again.

Seems the MY25 mavericks are a bag of crap as far as electronics go. What works or doesn't work is seemingly random. My truck completely shot itself in the head with some faulty trans module, the door locks refuse to work about 30% of the time, random phone connectivity issues. Probably more but I only use this thing to commute so I'm not in it long enough to use enough other features to discover what else doesn't work.

Did they farm-out the SW development to microsoft? LMAO

Took it into the dealer. We don't know exactly what we did but it works now. The service rep paired his apple phone and tested. That worked. He deleted his phone and then weirdly, mine started working with the voice commands. No phone settings were changed. However we did toggle Android Auto on and off then reselected the phone and music options. I don't use Android Auto.

Doing the settings hokey-pokey and not knowing what fixed the (any) issue is not what you'd expect from a properly designed and tested system.

More and more I'm convinced they are pushing out badly written and poorly tested software, hoping that most work well enough to keep sales rolling.

I don't mind being a beta tester of systems, but I like to be asked first.

This is the kind of thing you might expect from an unknown start-up - not an established company with a reputation to protect.

Maybe most people don't care they are paying premium prices for sub-standard stuff? If that's the case there is no remedy.

Well given that Microsoft can't solve half the problems it has with Windows, it's not surprising that a system designed to support three platforms has issues. Maybe Ford should partner with Subaru. Their stuff works.

Ha ha. You must have missed Ford's Sync 2 which was written for .NET mobile. So many bugs an entomologist would be happy. Sync 3 and 4 are joys compared to that. I've yet to have to pull over and reboot my car....
