I have a 2024 Hybrid Maverick. I've got the air conditioning set to use the recirculating air inside the cabin. But every so often, the air speed revs up and gives a strong blast of mixed outside air. I can smell things like grass being cut, exhaust from other vehicles, etc.

Is there a way to stop this from happening?

I’ve experienced the same thing and it’s usually around the same place in my commute about 35 to 40 minutes in I’ve not been able to get a straight answer myself.

This is NORMAL behavior.

Note: Recirculated air may turn off automatically, or prevent you from switching on in all air flow modes except MAX A/C to reduce the risk of fogging.

Maybe you can cycle in outside air yourself when your immediate outside air is better quality every so often to prevent the system from doing it as humidity builds up. I don't really know as I usually use recirculate by exception except when it's really hot. If I use recirculate too long, our dog lets us know by wanting the window open. Even when it's hot outside.

Living in South florida, our humidity is usually 85% or higher almost year round. It really makes no sense to have fresh air coming in as it is just
going to be hot air that has to be cooled.

I've always used recirculation inside the vehicle because it keeps the vehicle cooler and does it work the AC so hard.

Thanks. I will check that out.

I never put the AC on Max as it affects the mileage. And window fogging is not a problem unless the windows are rolled up when there's a heavy rain and the air conditioning is not on. I will look into this.

It's not about the temperature; it's about the humidity inside the cabin (or more accurately the dew point). If the truck senses that it will soon start fogging the windows, it will pull in outside air, which it assumes has a lower dew point. (It might even use the outside humidity, not sure.)

Typical response from Ford. This is a common issue with Mavericks. I've not heard of a fix.

If you're using AUTO, try turning that off and use Manual control. If you're using Manual, it sounds like you have a problem with the HVAC system.

I never use AUTO and do not have surprises like changing fan speeds, blasts of hot or cold air from the vents, Recirc. going off/on, etc.
