After the wreck of my Maverick #2 - I was looking thru the parts for the AC system and it lists 2 different expansion valves one for 134A and one for R1234Y .

Ford Maverick Air Conditioner Conversion - 134A ?? Weird Ford Parts expansion valve)

And looking at the condenser it lists 134A and R1234Y Both in the diagram ...

It would lead me to believe that changing out to 134A would be as simple as replacing the expansion valve ( if that is even necessary ) after flushing the system. Still - Im curious why all the 134A parts listed and available in the parts catalog.

Hi! I'm new around. I bet 134A has been widely used as a refrigerant for a long time... It's been the go-to option for many vehicles, so I find sense there is a variety of parts readily available for that specific refrigerant.
However, I'll say you switching refrigerants might involve more than just changing the expansion valve. The AC system is a complex beast, and there could be other components or considerations involved in the conversion process. So while changing the expansion valve could be a step in the right direction, make sure please to seek expert analysis of your vehicle before making any changes to your AC system. Nobody wants to end up with a hot and stuffy ride)o_O
Best of luck with your AC system upgrade, and I hope you'll be cruising in cool comfort again soon!

Hey - I understand what you are saying however the parts listed are in the Ford Maverick parts on Ford's part search specifically FOR the Maverick. 134A has never been used on a Maverick.

In the USA as of January 1, 2021 all cars and light trucks must use R-1234yf. The European Union Made the switch mandatory in 2020.

R-12 depletes the ozone layer.
Switch was made to 134a.
Later, 134a was determined to contribute to global warming.
A switch was made to 1234yf.

1234yf is said to break down in the environment within weeks.

134a lasted for decades.

1234yf breaks down in the environment but also breaks down internal lubricants inside your air conditioner. Specifically designed lubricants need to be used.

Different refrigerants should not be mixed. Different lubricants should not be mixed.

If you believe the internet. 😎

Yep, that's also true, and I haven't considered it)

From everything that I have researched you could retrofit with 134a there's about a 10% difference in pressures. There might be an issue with the type of refrigerant oil because it has to be non-magnetic and non-conductive on a hybrid.

It is illegal to do so on model years 2021 and newer.

I think these parts can be used with Escape 1.5l 134a systems.

Evidently only in the US ( as usual ) when looking at the factory specs from the official service manual Indeed they are still using 134A in the 2.0-
