Another Audio Build! I have yet to see any detailed specs on a full size underseat box so wanted to post to help anyone looking to do the same. Listing some of the issues I encountered as well as detailed box dimensions.

Truck: Lariat Lux EB
Subs: 2x Sundown Audio SLD 10” D4 wired @ 1 ohm
Amp: 1200 Watt Rockford fosgate Prime [R1200-1D]
Line out converter: Kicker 46KISLOC2 with remote turn on
Speaker Terminal: Dayton Audio BPA-38G HD Binding Posts with 90° Banana plugs

Box Specs:
Wood: 7-ply cabinet grade pine 23/32” (~0.72”)
Total internal volume: 1.385 ft³
Volume after displacement (0.15 per): 1.085 ft³
Net volume per sub: 0.54 ft³
Manufacturer recommended volume per sub: 0.5 ft³ sealed

Notes:
  • Had to cut away part of the rear seat support brackets for additional clearance.
  • Cut out plastic bins to keep top trim.
  • Covered cut metal and plastic edges with cloth automotive tape.
  • Removed rear factory sub and used mount points for amp location. The factory sub leaves an open hole in the sheet metal behind it so covered with HVAC tape.
  • Bent wireframe on bottom of seat up into foam a bit to allow for additional clearance. Probably not necessary but didn’t want anything hitting my speaker surround.
  • Tapped LOC into stock amp wiring behind the rear seat. The LOC needs to be grounded to output the 12v remote.
    • R+ = brown/green
    • R- = yellow/red
    • L+ = gray/brown
    • L- = blue
  • Added sound deadener to doors, behind the rear seat, and in the storage bins. (used Second Skin Damplifier)
  • wrapped all speaker wire in the box with cloth automotive tape to prevent rattling.
  • Shimmed the box in place with scrap wood to prevent movement/rattling.

Good write up. I am back and forth about what to do in mine. I don't use tbe under seat storage much so I could probably use at least the passenger side for a sub. I did some measuring and cardboard templates and I could get 1, maybe 2 8s their but it would get cluttered pretty quick.

Just have to say you did an amazing job, and inspired me to do my own box. Gonna call some places for some Baltic birch around me 👍

Just looked into your subs and they are basically the same as my 10” sundown sd2. Your sundown is basically the newer version. My 22 mav is getting built next month and you just gave me some hope that I can fit my 10” sundown in one of the bins I’ll just need to cutout the plastic. How do yours sound under the seat?

Cool build and very cool of you to share details as to your modifications to the underseat area to make it fit the box dimensions you shared.

I decided to remove one of the tubs for clearance and I'll use enclosure carpet to conceal the front edge where the missing plastic is visible when the seat bench is closed. Debating whether to just do that or to cover the whole thing, which of course, would only be seen if you lift the seat bench.

I did not want to cut the corner bench support because I'd be worried about the bench caving in if you have 3 people sitting on it. I'm also curious about the bracing on the edge of the driveshaft tunnel, assuming they all have this as my eco awd model does. Purple arrow - did you relieve that? I have shrunk my box design to fit both areas uncut. Just finished the final cardboard mockup last night and I'll be cutting MDF today or tomorrow. :)

Can you possibly give the measurements without the tubs? Lol that was my job last weekend I ended up never getting too. Is their alot more room without them?

Yes, but I'll open a new thread for my build, I don't want to clutter up the OP's. Mine is a single 8" so it's very different. You can't do a 10" unless you cut the bench brace like the OP or you build a trapezoid (smaller on the bottom side).

Awesome whenever you do I'll be following! And looks like I'm going to be doing some more thinking now as well
