My previous vehicle was a 2023 Escape Hybrid Platinum, it had 19" wheels, and last winter I purchased 4 19" winter tires as at the time couldn't afford to do wheels, sensors, & tires so I just installed the 19" winter tires on the Escape rims which was fine.

Now that we have the 2025 Maverick Hybrid Lariat, it of course came with 19" wheels but I would like to buy wheels for the 19" winter tires, so my question is should I go 19" steelies (cheaper than Alloy) and TPMS so I can mount the winter tires on at a cost of about $950 (CAD), or do like I did on the escape and just swap tires for the season.

The only thing about swapping of tires on the original rims is it's a cost of about $150 (CAD) each swap and increase the chance of wheel damage, and if I try and sell the 19" winter tires I have only 1 season on I'll loose $$, and then buy 17" wheels, TPMS, and tires which would be cheaper in the long term.

Really torn on which way to go here, any advice would be helpful.

All my snow tires are on their own sets of wheels. Makes my seasonal swap a breeze. I bought some much better summer wheels for the OEM tires, and put the snow tires on the OEM Ford wheels. In the long run it's better than having to swap the tires every season. If you are looking for cost friendly, fb marketplace is your friend.

My winter setup is 17" wheels with OEM sized tires (225/65-17 IIRC)

No need to spend extra money on 19" winters

EDIT: I misread your post. Winter's still a few months away, you could check on marketplace or Kijiji for used 19s? I found (and bought) brand new 2025 Lariat wheels, tires and TPMS sensors for $700 CAD. No tax, obviously

Otherwise you might find a 17" full set (wheels + lightly used tires) for a great price, sell your 19s and for about the same and you'll be set from now on for seasonal changeovers and cheaper tires when it's time to replace them

Yeah I have been combing FB Market place, Kijiji, and auto salvage places for wheels but to no avail. Your right there is time between now and winter, I don't like leaving it too close to winter conditions as the tire shops and dealers get swamped with everyone getting ready for winter as well. I may just bounce the original tires for my 19" winters for this season and save some coin over the winter and then make the change to 17" for next winter.

I picked out the wheels I wanted, konig oversteer 5x108 and I waited for them to go on sale. In the meantime winter was coming so I had the winter tires out on the OEM wheels. I think it was December eBay finally had them on sale with free shipping. Snagged them, brought to my mechanic and said between now and April put stock tires on these new wheels, gave him the tire sensors I found on Amazon, and presto all set.

Wouldn't that be 2 sets of winter tires? You want the 17" steelies now for this winter. The 17" steel are made for taking a beating, providing extra weight and flex so your 19" don't have to get scratched up in winter driving. The heavier wheel provides more traction.

I bought new alloy wheels from Wheel Wiz, a Canadian company (bought these: https://wheelwiz.ca/products/azz758crs) for our new Lariat (Also in PEI). You’ll need to add the optional lug nuts as the factory Ford nuts will NOT fit these particular wheels (The nuts are too fat). I also searched online for new Ford TPMS sensors (Ford changed the TPMS frequency for 2025 to 433mHz) and found a Ford dealer in Ontario (part details here - https://www.rivercityfordparts.ca/o...1JnQ9bGFyaWF0JmU9Mi01bC1sNC1lbGVjdHJpYy1nYXM=) that sells the sensors for way less than my dealer in Summerside. We already had good winter tires in the correct 225/65R17 size, so I had them mounted and balanced on the new wheels by a guy for $20/each. We’re all set for winter. Feel free to DM me if you’d like any more details.

Another option: Costco sells 17" steelies for $79 each and 19" steelies for $125 each
