Ford Might Not Be Able To Keep Up With Maverick Demand

August 24, 2021

When the Ford Maverick debuted a few months ago, some were skeptical there would be enough demand for a compact pickup truck slotting below the Ranger in America, where massive full-size trucks dominate the market. But the reservation numbers don't lie. In just one week, Ford secured 36,000 reservations for the Maverick.

Since then, those numbers have nearly tripled. A couple of months after it debuted in June, Ford has racked up more than 100,000 reservations for the Maverick, as reported by Bloomberg. Of course, these reservations still need to convert to sales, but it bodes well for the compact truck's launch this fall.

As standard, the Maverick is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and electric motor producing 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. Ford also offers a more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder version rated at 250 hp and 277 lb-ft mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Reaching 100,000 reservations is an impressive milestone, but it remains to be seen how many of these reservations will convert to sales, especially since they don't require a deposit and are non-binding. Whether Ford will be able to keep up with the high demand amid the ongoing superconductor chip shortage is also another matter. It will be interesting to see the first monthly sales figures after the Ford Maverick arrives in dealers this fall, but by the looks of the Maverick will be another success story for Ford.

In my view not a very good article. They do not call it a hybrid, but mention a gas and electric motor. Confusing, I am sure, to many that will read it. Then the CVT trans instead of calling it an eCVT and explaining the difference.

I dont argue your point. But the point of the article does have validity.

Decent article. I too am concerned by the "chip shortage" and pray when they made the commitment to deliver in the fall, they considered this known shortage.

Thanks for sharing the link.

Over on the Bronco forum reservations opened up over a year ago in July 2020 and a lot of them aren't looking at build dates until 2022 and maybe even 2023. Crazy times we're living in.

Frankly I thought the story was lame. It asked a question but offered no data to explore it. What's Ford's capacity? What did they expect? It's just click-bait.

They mentioned the chip shortage. We see the effects already with late availability items

Yeah, but that isn't Maverick specific. It's an industry wide issue. The headline was about whether Ford could manage Mav demand, not vehicle demand overall.

It was a bullshit article.

Superconductor??? This honestly reads like one of those AI generated news articles.

*If you've never heard of them check out NotRealNews.net, all AI generated. Little creepy.

OK. It was a concern that something like the chips could hurt Mav production and they absolutely could. It was not about overall vehicle demand. The Mav, the Bronco and the Lightning are the hottest trucks Ford has right now. Did Ford really expect the Mav to be the hit it is? Did anyone? I did not. This caught me off guard as well. You call the article bullshit when it brings up a valid point. How many build dates have Bronco orders experienced already and not all for chips. Got a hard top, uh oh your build is suspended. Can Ford keep up the demand for the trans for the Hybrids?

We can only assume the real reason, does Ford want the real reason to be known? Or blame it on the Chip Shortage?
