We are looking to buy a Maverick to tow a Bean Trailer. They are an all-fiberglass teardrop trailer and depending on the model (Meaner Bean), they are setup for "off roading".

We will be doing softroading so forest and BLM roads. No Jeep trails!

On paper it should do fine with the EcoBoost, AWD and tow package.

Yet, before we dump a lot cash money, I would like your wisdom. All thoughts are welcomed.

This shouldn’t be a problem for the Maverick but you might want to add the FX4 package for the underbody protection, I’ll be doing pretty much the same thing pulling a 16’ fiberglass Scamp.

Not the car for the job, unibody is limited. These roads can get pretty ruff and I don't see it holding up very well especially when towing.

Interesting Subaru's and other small SVUs have been towing these types of trailers for years...

I seen videos of people towing trailers down those same roads for years in Subaru Outbacks so being a unibody shouldn’t be problem.

Maybe your blm and forest roads are different then the ones we have here. But I wouldn't pull a trailer on them if I could. It would also tear up the trailer. But hey its only 20k.

I almost went with Bean, but their wait time was lengthy. Have my small teardrop / squaredrop being built right now and picking up next month from another manufacturer.

Not sure how much softroading I will attempt, but simple forest roads, I would expect it to be fine.

I was only going to suggest optioning trailer brakes on the trailer, but that appears to be standard on all Beans.

I watch Cosmo Weems on Youtube. He takes his small teardrop and Subaru to those sorts of spots and, unless there's snow, doesn't have any issues.

Mav2Scamp, I love Scamp trailers! The Bean is made in much the same way.

ImGoose, we are going to SLC to see them this Friday. It looks like their current wait time is 90 days. Can I ask which company you went with?

As for will a unibody work watch the YT channel "Playing with Sticks". They tow theirs with an Outback.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I *think* the 90 day wait is if you pay to get to the front of the line - and it's a couple thousands dollars additional to do that.

I went with Escapade out of Minnesota. AC is a non-negotiable for me, even if it's limited to shore power. It opens up much more of the year to use a camper like that in my area. When I was looking, Bean didn't have the option at all. They have added it in the last month, but it's not a standard window unit, so it's really expensive to add. And if it goes bad, you have to replace it with another really expensive unit.

Escapade just uses window AC units that can be easily replaced, so I like that.
