Not so much what I've done, as what I'm doing. I pulled over to, block from home, to get a 4 1/2' Sonoran Gopher Snake out of the road. He bee lined it for my truck, climbed up the suspension and into the engine bay. Great.

You can see part of him in the photo, lying on the felt bottom engine shield. So it's a waiting game. It just started raining, so he wants to stay warm and dry. Hilarious, no.

Well an hour later he's moved from just below the radiator to behind the engine near the steering rack...

Oh this is so weird! I had driveway service done last week (two recalls). The tech pointed to exactly the same spot to show me a snake skin.

Well thank you for trying to help the critter, I don't know snakes so I avoid them.

Well, in rare form for June 1st-2nd, it rained all night long, hard... So we got a welcome 1.5" of rain. At some point, while it was raining, the Snake left my engine bay.. Surprised me, as I thought he'd wait out the rain. i was hoping to get a photo of him emerging, but not willing to stay up and go out in the rain to wait for the opportunity. LOL

"cooler near me" in your favorite search engine.

(most of my boots are snakeskin!)

I am glad there are NO snakes in Alaska.
There are no cats in America!
And the streets are paved with cheese!

Google: NO snakes in Alaska

Yes, it is true that there are no snakes native to Alaska. The state's cold climate and freezing temperatures during winter make it unsuitable for snake populations. While some garter snakes have been reported in the southeastern part of Alaska, near the Taku and Stikine rivers, these are likely rare sightings and not established populations, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and Wikipedia.

Here's why snakes don't live in Alaska:
  • Cold Climate:
Snakes are cold-blooded and rely on external sources of heat to regulate their body temperature. The long, harsh winters and freezing temperatures in Alaska make it impossible for snakes to survive, says the Anchorage Daily News.

    • No Suitable Habitat:
Alaska's landscape, characterized by frozen ground and snow cover for much of the year, doesn't offer the warm, sheltered spaces snakes need to hibernate or find food.
    • Limited Reptile Species:
Besides the rare sea turtle sightings, other reptiles and amphibians are also scarce in Alaska due to the cold, with only a few salamander and frog species adapted to the environment.

yeah, yeah. And they had reasons and explanations when they told Fievel that there were no cats in America, complete with a big song!
