a tire shop will not patch the sidewall, even when very close to the sidewall, with good reason imo.
The sidewall flexes too much.
Tire shops in NY will. They say they are not responsible but they do an awesome job. Patch and balance for $30 on a $300 tire that still has 90% tread is right up my alley. Over 80 mph and no shakes.
But Silver23 you are correct, some people have a different standard of safety. I like to live on the edge :)
Id say to the OP get a new tire as a replacement and patch this one and use it as a temp/spare that's the same size.
good luck

Make sure the new tire is on the rear for a front wheel drive. Even minimal difference in tread depth (1/32") can cause extra wear on the drive components. The problems will surface after the warranty expires.
It was on the rear drivers side, and they replaced the same. So yes, should be ok.

I am thinking about upgrading them all next year maybe as they are not the best for snow here in the Midwest. Really only had one heavy snow so far this year. So we will see.

And they will do it right.

My daughter and SIL own Honda Civics with the same crappy OEM Firestones. They would get constant low tire pressure warnings, but the pressure was fine. As soon as she switched over to Michelins, the phantom low pressure warnings stopped.
It’s not the crappy OEM tires that gives false low pressure warnings. Honda Civic does not have an air pressure sensitive TPMS sensor. They rely on the abs sensor to determine if one tire rotates faster than another (flat tire). Not a good system. Prone to falsing all the time and needs to be calibrated often. Very annoying system that they use on the Civics.

I have something very similar to this. It's my front passenger tire. I had it checked twice but didn't find anything. The guy dismounted it from the wheel and still nothing. Will the dealership change the tire or wheel as part of the warranty?

Just wanted to chime in -
Can't tell you how many times Discount tire has saved the day from flats on vehicles - to golf cart tire repair and zero turn tires off the rim on a Saturday afternoon ..... if its round and flat they have always taken care of it in my experience without question and free of charge if repairable. Definitely first on list when tires are needed.

Cheers

Update: I inspected the tire and couldn’t see anything stuck in it… So I had the dealer look at it and they found a small nail in the sidewall (so they said). I only have 7500 miles on the truck (all smooth roads) with minimal wear, so replacing the one tire for now.

Thanks all for your input
SO, I take it they did not show you the damage? Always trust but verify!

I’ve had repair shops show me stuff that wasn’t from my car. I only knew because I worked on my cars in the past. It’s unfortunate, but that is how some individuals operate.

Unless you’re able to watch them do the inspection or a video, they can have prepared damaged parts they use to get people to buy a repair.

Sometimes it’s the exact same part, which is when it’s almost impossible to know it wasn’t from your car. Unless there is something obviously off like too much wear, or impossible types of damage, or clearly hand applied grime.

In this case I am giving them the benefit of the doubt as they’ve seemed straight so far. But I always have a level of skepticism. Actually, it’s when they go out of their way to show me that usually sets off my spider senses.

cheaper to buy an air compressor
I bought a Ryobi 18v battery compressor. Has digital readout in tenths of a pound. About $24 if you already have batteries. 2 4ah batteries with charger are about $75. Also bought hot glue gun that use same batteries. Works great.
Also on my 28" Michelin Primacy I need to adjust air pressure about every 20°F temp change. In Texas day/night can be 25°F variance so usually check mainly before trips.
