Probably not the most economical, but it was pretty simple and it satisfies our needs.

Bought this bicycle support from DG Bicycle Support and these knobs from Lowes. I had to redrill the holes in the bicycle support because the screw on the knob was too large, but you might find a knob with a screw that fits those holes.

Because I have a tonneau cover and couldn't install the bike support with a C clamp as intended, I installed it on the rail and added a metal backing plate (because the bike support was just marginally large enough not to slip through the track). As I write this I realize that my description isn't the greatest, but I'm hoping you'll be able to follow anyway. If not, let me know and I'll try again.

I’d be terrified to have my bike mounted to the truck that way
Is that the only mounting point?
At least with the tonneau blocking your back window you won’t have to see the carnage when it falls out of the bed and gets run over my the people behind you

Please tell me you are using a strap or something as a back up restraint

Nice job. That would have worked for me. I bought the Harbor Freight bike rack for my hitch. How do you like the Undercover? I have the Ultra Flex.

We've taken the bike out on a couple of trips and are still really happy with the mount. Yes, we've got a tether in the front. It's not necessary, but it's basically no extra effort, so why not. The bike is not going anywhere on its own. That said, I wouldn't leave it unattended for even a minute. It's that easy to load and unload. I'd use one of my more secure (locking) hitch-mounted bike racks if I planned to stop anywhere along the way.

As for the tonneau cover, I like it so far, but it's the first one I've had, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I like that it isn't easily scratched up and it's lightweight. People have different needs; for my purposes, this style was the better option. Oh, and the installation was pretty easy as well.

Here are some more pictures of the mount and tether (black on black is kind of hard to see, but I hope it's good enough to get the idea)

Not the best idea if you have a carbon fiber frame....excessive side pressure on the downtube if you were driving on a rough surface "could" lead to a cracked frame.

That's a valid point. And that's the great thing about having a vehicle designed with modifications in mind. Folks can create solutions that work for them.
