Surely this post will get me some hate and ugly comments, but that's ok!
I ordered 4 mavericks last September, in a attempt to just get 1 for myself. So far that strategy has paid off...
I ordered a XLT with lux package and a Lariat, both hybrids. I ordered the two different trim levels because the lariat has everything I think I wanted and the XLT had enough stuff that I felt I could be satisfied. Ordered both trims just in the event that perhaps due to constraints only one or the other would be selected. Then to again double my chances of a build, I did a duplicate order of a Lariat and XLT at another dealer.
Got nothing but the normal we're sorry your not scheduled emails from Ford until a few weeks ago when finally one of the XLT's I ordered got selected and I got a build date. Should be built at the end of August.
My plan was to buy whatever was built first and if I was happy with it, keep it. And if any of the other 3 were selected to be built I could either buy them and sell them for a small profit or let the dealer have them to sell to whoever or just simply cancel the orders. But truthfully if there was some money to be made by buying them and reselling them I would have done that for sure.
I got extra lucky and actually found a new XLT hybrid at the same dealer about a month ago ( a week before I got a email saying one of my 4 was going into production... talk about timing! ) and they were kind enough to sell to me at MSRP so I have been driving it for the last month and it has shown me that I can be happy with an XLT and don't need to pursue a Lariat.
So my current plan is to keep driving the XLT I currently have till the one I ordered comes in. I like the one I have now but the one I ordered has a few more options I really want, such as the heated seats, and is in the preferred color I wanted ( cactus grey as opposed to the Atlas Blue on the one I have now ). When my ordered truck comes in, I plan to resell the one I have now to whoever will give me the most for it, then keep the cactus gray one as my keeper.
So now that you know the backstory... I am pondering what do I do with the 3 unbuilt 2023 orders? Obviously I could just not renew them as 2024 orders, and that is probably what I should do... just to help increase chances of someone else getting their order. But with the Private cash offer keeping the 2024 models the same price point as 2023's coupled with the price increase on 2024's... Seems like if I did continue with my orders and they get built as 2024's I could stand to buy them and flip them for a healthy profit.
I know a lot of people HATE flippers. But money is money, and hard to turn down easy money. What do you folks think?
