When I went to adjust the seat back a bit it was stuck in that position.
This is not legal advice, and I'm not licensed in your state.

But make sure you have a good body shop look at it before agreeing to anything!

A few years ago, we handled a rear-end case in which the insurance was claiming that it wasn't a hard collision, as evidenced by the lack of body damage.

As we investigated further, we found that the inertial seatbelt retractor had locked, hard--which changed the whole posture of the case!

Looks like that F-250 was higher than your hitch and bump step. Can't help but wonder if you would have more damage or less damage if it met with the step. I have that same step on mine.

From what I understand this is an "intentionally designed safety feature." It cushions the impact to the driver's head, neck and back, by allowing the seat back to collapse backward.
Disregarding and screwing the back seat passenger. Especially if it's a younger person who does not require a safety seat but yet is not a full size adult.
This happened when I was rear-ended in a Kia Forte. The seat ended up twisted and it took forever to get insurance to cover it. The adjuster had no clue that the seats were designed to collapse in a rear end crash.

The cost of the repair shouldn’t matter to you since you were not at fault. I would be concerned with making sure a complete repair is performed and that you are properly compensated for the loss of value of your Maverick for the damage.

It is not okay for their insurance to only pay for the repair. You are entitled to the amount in value your truck has now lost due to their drivers negligence.

I had never thought of that angle.

Wish I would have known about that when my son had his almost new Jeep rearended. Insurance woudn't total it because the cost didn't exceed what it was worth. Repairs ended up being over $25k. I think he paid slightly more than $30k for it. Afterwards power steering box kept going out, obviously something was bent that never got straightened, some engine problems that happened while it was at the body shop and he got way less than what it would have been worth when he did get rid of it. It got hit hard enough to put a crease in the top.
