I've some minor scratches on my Maverick passenger door, no clue how it happened:

scratch.jpg

I haven't done any touch up on vehicles, although I've done some on walls, wood and appliance finishes.

Which touch up paint would work best for this minor, but annoying scratches?

Thx...
is the color coat scratched or just the clear coat? looks like you got a scratch and a chip.
anyway I'd try some polishing compound on the upper blemish and a paint pen on the bottom one.

Correct me if I am wrong, but... AFAIK, the Maverick Lariat's paint does not have clear coat finish.

It seems on the enlarged image below, that the paint had been scratched and in addition, the primer coat is scratched as well:

Ford Maverick Scratch touchup paint... scratch2

The actual size of the scratch is smaller, roughly 0.50" long and 0.25" wide. There's a small level difference between the paint color and the line that I called primer. The chances are that this had been something bouncing on the road, maybe a rock, that hit the door.

I don't mind trying the polishing compound, but if does not work, will need to use touch up paint anyway. Wouldn't that require removing the compound first?

Thx...

You can get it at the Ford dealer, Motorcraft brand. Or you can buy it on eBay at Amazon Motorcraft brand as well. It's cheaper than some of the aftermarket alternatives and guaranteed to match

My incoming Tremor has a clear coat can't say if yours does
polishing compound usually doesn't have any wax and wipes clean. I'd clean the surface with alcohol regardless.

I tried from Motorcraft and the site has conflicting information, like this:

Ford Maverick Scratch touchup paint... 1697576630084

I didn't even know that the secondary name for the Iconic Silver is Radiance Silver. The list of "Fits these vehicles" does not have the Maverick listed in any years:

Ford Maverick Scratch touchup paint... 1697576808634

The text on the touch up paint picture has one color code of "JS", that's my Maverick's exterior color code. I'll probably call the local dealer, not part of the dealers at Ford Parts, and order one from them.
Ebay pretty much has the same listing at the same price and couldn't find it on Amazon. The latter one brought up all the different shades of silver, but not the Iconic Silver (JS).

Thx @fossil, I'll start with that since it is an easy cleanup.

My experience with touch up pens is basically they are not worth it. I got a set for my previous Escape with the same plagued paint job as the Mavericks and it was basically putting white out on the Ice Metallic paint. Enough to fool from a distance but didn't look like it would hold up at all either. If you can find them cheap then do it but don't expect much.

You probably got the scratch from the rear door of a car parked next to you, when a passanger in the back seat opened it to get out. The rear doors have a sharp point where the door arches over the back wheel well. The lower part of the scratch is made while the passanger is in the car, and the upper part is when they get out and there vehicles rises, usually from a kid in the back seat. This happens often in parking lots.

Thx everyone...

Despite the warning against it, I'll go with the OEM touch-up paint. Winter is just around the corner and it seem easier just to use a pen like application. I just want to cover scratch for the winter and addressed it in the spring. May just use @Rcantoys suggestion of Dr ColorChip, that needs 3 - 5 coats.
