There has been talk about the various safety packages and equipment available on the Mavericks. Over all there has been talk about the packages in general and the customizability of the truck.

a statement from a former engineer, turned programmer, IT forensics tech, pastor, medical researcher, and now public policy analyst (but always a teacher).

I have a number of genetic conditions that require I take a crap tonne of medications. Even with those meds I am subject to conditions that greatly affect my driving. For example I am the only old fat guy who has hypotension that I know. I walked into an ER with a 68/24 BP. Walked. That was the day Nancy Pelosi saved my life. Listening to a podcast (plus a bolus of Prednisone) got me back into the 90’s over 70’s which allowed me to live.

mother medications have timing on them. I take Adderall (for ADD), Ritalin and midodrine for blood pressure/pots. Armodafinin and Viagara for ME/CFS (armodafinil is an antinarcaleptic, viagara turns out to increase mitochondria in cells and nitric oxide) I fell and broke my back, going from 6’5.5 to 6’1.5, had a bout of Necrotizing Fasciitis in my right glute requiring 7 surgeries 4 emergency to correct, have primary immune failure so bless every one of you that gives IGG, that treatment weekly of subQ infusions literally allows me to leave home occasionally, I have poly endocrine autoimmune syndrome type 3 (thyroid, adrenal, liver, celiac, MS and possibly MG), and lastly I have primary androgen failure requiring testosterone injections each month. On top of that I have PTSD, GAD and refractory MDD for which I take Intranasal Ketamine and rTMS as I have 3 metabolic defects APOE4, mthfr c677t, and p459 3d4 type 5 (non functional
I take over 14 meds a day which have to be timed to the hour and am subject to rapid physiological changes like eyesight.

I am still the one best able to drive in my household. My Girlfriend (soon to be Fiancé and then wife hopefully)?has had 4 strokes and lost much of her peripheral vision, my mother who live with me is getting ready to have knee replacement and may lose art of her foot. Plus at 76, she doesn’t need to be driving.

with my broken back, and rapid blood pressure changes I have opted for as much visibility and blind spot detection as I can. Even went Lux to get the pier seats so I can adjust the driver seat to fit my unique physical changes (I ride on my left glue as my right glute is in literally different pieces from al the surgeries.

my point is I bought every single navigational visibility aid I could justify so that it is factory integrated and professionals have signed off on it. I also carry a full set of medical supplies for myself, accident victims, range incidents and “blowouts” (not the tyre kind the shooting kind) and rescue equipment. Even with all the extra cubby space it will be tight to fit all my gear into the Maverick plus my fridge (some items have to stay below 85 degrees f) and my power chair.

will I get a discount for the safety equipment? No. I would be able to write it off as medical expense, except while the truck is being purchased as a vehicle for me primarily, it is being purchased by a foundation so that I can continue to volunteer in the community and help others.

This space is not meant to brag, many of you will judge that I have no reason to drive anywhere. That is a valid point, all I can say to you is that my team of professionals evaluates my fitness for driving each year, at my request.

my medications are staggered for treated effect and lowest dose such that when one starts to wear off I have a known time frame to get back home and get into bed. That time frame is 2 hours and I have diagnostic equipment monitoring Heart rate and ECG to warn me of ongoing more subtle changes.

I am truly grateful for the safety Equipment. My neck and back don’t move well, so blind spot detection. BP and vision changes can be slow or quickly oncoming, so collision avoidance through emergency braking and lane detection, definite pluses.

The only 2 options I would like to have had access to is evasive steering and lane centering , but the additional cost would have put it so that we would not have gotten some other perks such as the wheelchair lift and DYC paint wrap in the foundation’s colours both of which we dependent on meeting certain other financial goals.

hat being said, thank you and shout outs to the anonymous employee donors at DYC who threw in the extra 150$so we could get the Hypershift pears that fit our colors and to the guys at liftgator for providing the lift at cost. And A giant thank you to Tom at Chapman for their pricing that allows us to come in under budget and so help more Alzheimer’s and TBI patients.

If it was not for all of them, plus Sam and Al who are purchasing one of our unused needs substantial repairs properties that we bought at a tax sale so the family could keep living there another 2 years, none of this would have ever been possible.

I have not mentioned the name of the name of the Foundation as I am not here advertising for it. You will see it once we get delivery and the body wrap is applied, but that is because I promised to show it off and so may blur out the contact info.

my ultimate point. Manyhave complained about the lack of options or the fact most are safety related you feel no need for. I am great full for them all. Even a minor accident could put me partly or completely out of action, leaving many without assistance. So thank you all.

PS. yes I have had a lot of professions and taught a lot over the years. Yes, I am classified as totally and permanently disabled, and no I do not draw a single penny from my efforts, I am a firm believer that the government pays me my Social Security, and so I live on that and donate my time teaching, training and assisting those who cannot help themselves. This is meant to encourage those of you who may be sick or retired: you have experience and wisdom. Please try and share it with a young person or down on their luck individual in your community. It pays back a thousandfold.

I admire your resolve and attitude. If it doesn’t break any forum rules, I have no objection to your making the foundation information known.

I dunno if it breaks forum rules, I go off topic repeatedly so at least until we have pics to show off I will probably keep it under wraps.

we have an expansion and move happening right now and are able to expand from a multi county assistance to multi state. Once that process is complete and we get 501c3 certified for the expanded operation, the board may issue more openness guidelines.

I can assure you we can really change lives for the better when we are funded and able to reach those in need. Oh and we save the public loads of money too about 60k per patient we can help. And that’s Medicaid dollars that can be used elsewhere, so your state and federal taxes! Everybody wins!
