I expect to own this truck for well over 10 years. But as with all fords, I am concerned about premature rust pulling the rug out from under my careful maintenance. so I will attempt exhaustive rust proofing and post some pictures if there is enough interest. I have the xlt hybrid so lots of panels underneath. I dont have a lift or fancy equipment, just stands in my driveway. my brand of choice is cosmoline which doesnt harden or wash off. (I know this is a personal thing, so I am hoping that we keep this on the process, vs. what product). After a careful walk around and under, I bought a panel remover and plan to remove the back wheels and wheel liners to gain access to the full steel box. I think I can get the full box - pretty much plan on hitting everything I can on the back half. all metal suspension components front and back get coated. touching up the exposed metal areas under the cab. I dont have a plan for the rockers yet since it seems they do not exist! will see what I can get too. Will get this done before putting on the ford mud flaps. I am really looking for others insights and ideas from those who have gone on ahead on this journey. Everything I have seen on this vehicle gives me the feeling that longevity was not a priority in the design, so going to try to help tip the scale on making the sheet metal last.

Just your yearly rust check should suffice,I live in the north (salt country) and see 15 year old vehicles with no rust as long as the treatment is done each year

What kind of treatment would that be?

Anyone have any experience with their vehicle being treated with Krown? The Line-X shop in this town also does Krown application, wondering if I should do that yearly with whatever vehicle I own next.

I put this in another thread but I picked up a case of Cosmoline rp-342. I will basically do what guy in video did.

Just don't get a hard undercoating material like Ziebart or others. After a few years it will bubble up and hold water against the metal and promote rust instead of preventing it. Use a liquid or greasy compound like Krown or a cosmoline or lanolin compound with a creeping agent in it and update it every year. It will make a bit of mess in your garage every year, but it works an awful lot better. All of the dealers for all manufacturers around here use Krown underneath and Line-X or Rhino in the box. Also Krown is warranted not to mess up your hybrid battery connections.

Move to warm state . Don't drive in salt water at the beach . keep vehicle in a garage . wash as needed . wax twice a year . touch up bare metal scratches or areas .

I live in New Hampshire and love the winters here. It's a known fact that winter chemicals applied to the roads is corrosive.. I make sure to have the car and undercarriage wash twice a month at a decent car wash. In the spring I power wash the undercarriage and put a sealant on the body. I don't want that New Hampshire oil or other stuff to ruin any modules or screw up the hybrid battery on maverick.

At the very least spend $15 and apply Fluid Film or equivalent to the easy spots with water drain holes for easy access like the drain holes under the doors and the bottom of the tailgate. I spray down my engine and engine compartment also.
