Hey all, I want to get some roof rails to haul an old 2 person aluminum canoe that was gifted to me. I'm planning on getting a rack system in my bed for a tent and that is going to sit a little lower than my roof line so I can't fit the canoe on that.

Does anyone have suggestions for roof rails or want to share their set up? I'd appreciate it.

Bonus points if you know which bottles fit perfectly inside the front door cup holder.

I like my PAW AUTO cab roof rack. Paired with a hitch extender in the upright position if it's a long canoe. That's haulin' a canoe for about $300. There are certainly better roof racks out there if you have the budget.

Damn, gotta say I love that value. That looks like pretty capable roof system. Do you have any images of what your truck looks like hauling that canoe or a link to your hitch extender?

I'm trying to turn my truck into the fun mobile, I want to be able to haul a canoe, a roof top tent, and my mountain bikes at the same time.

Doing that w/out a trailer could be tricky, but doable. I'm thinking a double hitch receiver. The top for the hitch extender and the bottom for the bike rack. That's assuming those accessories wouldn't bump into each other. The tongue weight rating is 400 lbs, the double receiver would knock it down to 200 lbs. Could be a close shave to keep under 200. I'm guessing you want the canoe to pass over your RTT.

I have inflatable boats so they just go on the roof rack and sit directly on the topper and strap down. I've never had to mess with a hitch extender. Just a hitch mounted bike rack.

Throughout the 1990s, I used a sawhorse kit and 2x4s to make a cab-high sawhorse to fit in the bed of my open bed S-10 truck. I also used foam blocks on the canoe gunwales to set on the cab. The bow was lashed down to the frame under the bumper and the stern was lashed down to the rear bumper.

I think something like what @EJRSSF has in their picture could work. I toss my mountain bikes on my tailgate pad on one side and I think they would fit in there without hitting the hitch extender. I would have the top of the rack system for the bed a few inches below the roof line so when the rooftop tent is on there the canoe should clear.

You all have been a tremendous help and once everything gets squared away I'll post an image. It'll be a bit though because I have to piece it together over time as not to upset my wallet too much. But I think I'll start with that PAW Auto roof rack. It's budget friendly and I should be able to toss the canoe up there for a short trip maybe fashion a sawhorse like @breal mentioned until I get an extender.

I just spent less than 100$ for the T hitch extender. The boats can fit in the back and the extender holds the other end behind the truck.

I'd be amazed if you could fit a bike over the tailgate and under the RTT, but worth a shot to do the vertical measurements.

I've got the paw rack in my hand now. It has plastic washers, it's kinda cheesy but it does the trick. The rubber feet compress, so check/re-tighten it gently after you apply the load. I try to make it even on both sides. Maybe get those NRS loops to tie down to the hood too.

If you're a serious boater, maybe get a better rack though. I'm torn here because those racks are like $800.

The RTT would be on a bed rack elevated just below the cab roof line. Not even with the top of the truck bed, the bikes would fit but it you'd have to load them in kinda horizontally.

Do you think I can just replace those plastic washers with some metal ones? I'd like it to be pretty sturdy because I might toss some wood up there every once and awhile too.
