Roll N Lock Tonneau & tailgate trim fitment challenge

2024 Maverick Lariat Hybrid with an aftermarket Roll-N-Lock M series Tonneau cover. The plastic trim cap on top of the tailgate sits about 1/8th of an inch higher than the plastic trim on the side rails. When first installed the seal at the back edge of the tonneau would barely clear the plastic trim cap on the tailgate. Over time the tonneau seal only abuts the plastic trim on the top of the tailgate and no longer sits on top of the trim. Has anyone else encountered this situation?

Images attached. TEH tonneau cover seal is supposed to fit over the tailgate and not abut it.

I just got mine and started installing it. I am struggling with the clamps but read a few others here having issues with the fitment . They mentioned having to shim it to fit
