Same for me. My corolla had 75% of the wire casing eaten, not a touch to the wire. But my insurance covered all but my $250 deductible. I had the whole harness replaced even though the engine light never came on, so when I sold it I'd get its value.. The part with tax was over $2,700 and labor was 14 hrs at $225/hour, so almost $6k. California prices. I use a mouse blocker now.
what’s a mouse blocker?

Flew 600 miles and paid $5K over invoice to get my Maverick Lariat- Yes, I wanted it that bad.
LOVED it for 1,900 miles until I got an Engine Light warning, and had to take it to my local dealer.

Issue diagnosed to be a single wire damaged by rodent- at a repair cost of nearly $600 that was NOT covered under warranty.

I do not have rodents in my garage, and my subsequent calls to Ford are have been useless.
The Mav was produced in early Feb, and I purchased it in late March, which means Ford owned it during transit after manufacturing longer than the time I have owned it since purchasing. Additionally a $600 repair bill for a few small wire terminals is crazy.

I've since seen stories of Soy Based Wiring insulation attracting rodents, etc., but since I do not have any in my garage where this Mav is kept, I can only assume that the problem may have begin at the point of manufacture in Mexico. Then, a few weeks later the wire frayed enough to cause the Engine light to come on.

Anyone else have similar experiences? I still love the Maverick, but am extremely disappointed in Ford.
A mouse could get there anywhere, doesn’t have to be in your garage. Ford’s not going to cover that! WTF do you expect from a warranty? Wow just wow. Ford’s fault, makes me laugh at the thought of it.

All those NEW Maverick’s sitting out in fields and in large outdoor lots, then sitting sometimes weeks on rail cars, no way they could get any rodents in them. Come on Ford. $600 for a freakin wire that was in ALL PROBABILITY chewed by a Mexican rat.
Prove it! It didn’t happen in Mexico as the customer already had it in his possession when the fault light came on.

I had a similar issue. My check engine light came on as I was pulling out of the dealers lot. They did a quick check and said it wasn't urgent so we scheduled a time for the warranty work. Came back 3 or 4 times for them to finally figure out that the harness under the driver's seat was messed up. Could have got caught on something during the manufacturing process or chewed by a rodent during shipping. All visits to the service department were covered under warranty and the service department was great to work with.

So you gladly paid $5k over MSRP to get to drive the truck but not $600 to get to drive the truck?

Interesting mindset I guess.

Hope you get back on the road soon.

Go on Amazon. Little $20 device that blinks when motioned sensored and makes a noise we can't hear but sounds like a jackhammer to rodents. They come in wall plug in, 12volt car battery plug in (wire wraps around your EB battery) OR what I have, AA battery rechargeable. One charge lasts 45 days. Doesn't bother cats, dogs or birds, just squirrels, mice, other rodents.

Well at nearly $70 a gallon, who cares!
Let the mice have their lunch, it will come out a wash with repairs.

Opinions on this thread may vary on whose ultimately responsible for the damage and whether Ford should step up to cover, but .....My issue is more with the excessive repair bill than anything....
When I asked to have the old parts back, I was given the 3) small terminals with pink insulators and remaining (chewed) wire ends that you can see in the photo below.

The technician provided me with a photo showing that these wires are directly under the truck- you do not need to dis-assemble anything to get to them.
And this was only a "repair kit", not a replacement harness.

So what do these wires even do? I was told something to do with hydrocarbon detection, blah, blah, blah, so does this mean I just paid $600 to assure my truck remains green for the environment ?

As I look at this now, I am curious if I could not have just re-wrapped the copper wires with electrical tape and been on my way.

I think he's indicating that it may have happened before he got the vehicle.

Looks like the retail on those terminals should be like $8.40 each.

How many hours labor did they charge you? Certainly seems excessive if the damage was visible!
