An update: They did have to replace the entire engine on my 2022; they said it was a result of a firmware update? Whatever - I'm glad there were a few weeks left on the warranty. However, the truck still wasn't right and we'd had so many issues we were just done. As it happened, the dealer did have one hybrid XLT coming in about a week after we got the truck back and we grabbed it.

What a difference! The 2025 XLT is a completely different experience from the 2022 XL. It's a much better truck in just about every way. I think our trade in was something like $4,000 less than what we paid for the 2022 originally, so $4,000 for three years of driving is not bad (trucks here in Hawaii hold their value crazy well). Anyway, happy we made the switch.
I’d be VERY curious to know how a software update is tied to complete engine replacement. Do you have more info to share?

After waiting over 18 months, I finally got my Ecoboost last March. I have been very happy with it. If all you want is great mileage, stick with the hybrid. If you want power and decent mpg go with the Ecoboost. I consider 29 to 30 mpg to be very good for a turbo engine. Also, starting in 2023 Ford added cruise control for the XL model. There are still 2024's available in some locations.

It would be a good idea to ask the dealer how many hybrid Mavericks they have sold/serviced in comparison to Ecoboost. If the numbers are small, that's not a good situation.
One of the reasons I went with EcoBoost is that they far outnumber hybrids in the frozen tundra where I live. When I was shopping for the Maverick some dealers had never sold or serviced a hybrid.
Going forward, especially in places like Hawaii, this should not be a problem. I think now most Mavericks sold are hybrid models. Even in other brands now, hybrids are quickly becoming a norm and there should be plenty of mechanics with experience on them from this time forward. Except maybe in remote cold areas.

Oh, there are definitely ways.

Basically, push a system far enough out of where it should be, and it can either be too far to return, or can damage itself.

I actually paid the $20 for two year contract on a $100 ($50?) VCR a bit over 20 years ago. I just took it as part of the cost of reaching two years.

The clever self adjusting tracking failed, and went far enough out of wack that it couldn't recover--and there was no manual adjust.

We realized this when we placed the tape from the replacement into the next unit, and it followed the bad track out of wack. we demanded a different brand. (we actually had 5 VCRs by the time that ended!)

Or a digitial camera. I think it was, I believe, the last consumer grade Olympus,, with 10x optical zoom.

The year I was drafted to teach fifth grade (seriously. I wasn't even asked; I was informed!), a room mother borrowed it. And put in an SD card the size larger than it was specced for.

It recognized the card, but once it was removed, it could never recognize a card again!

And there are others.

Push a system too far, and it can't recover.

A software upgrade could either prevent or cause this. Think of the number of reports every year of electronics "bricked" by upgrades.

I think there are a couple of updates in the last few years that bricked F-150 modules.

Personally I traded my 23xlt hybrid with 31k miles on it with zero issues for a 25 lariat hybrid awd and so far 2k miles it’s been great.

I really need a truck but I also really want an efficient vehicle. We got one of the very first Maverick Hybrid's off the line and it's been... not great. It's currently parked at the dealership where it's been for a month waiting for a part. It has fewer than 15,000 miles on it. This is its third long spell at the shop. Sadly the third problem was different from the first two so it's not *quite* a lemon. We've pretty much had it with this particular vehicle. Also, it's an XL and it turns out I really need a vehicle with cruise control. We're looking to trade it in for a new Maverick once all the things are fixed.

Do we go hybrid again, or is it "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me?". Do we go ecoboost instead? Also muddying the waters, there are several ecoboosts available locally, but no hybrids until April or May. What had been other people's experience with the hybrid? Were we just really unlucky?
I have a used 2024 xlt hybrid and have had zero issues with it. I have heard there were issues on the early models. I got mine with 15000 miles on it last sept 24 and have just changed the oil, thats it. I have others who have 24 and new 25 models and aside from the stupid camera issue, everything has run as it should

I can't think of a part that is unable to be shipped by air. Even a full engine replacement is only about 400lbs and easily fits in a quarter-pallet box.
With UPS, FedEx etc., there should NEVER be an excuse that we are "waiting on a part" that is available at another location. There is a reason there is Next Day and Second Day Air.:clap:
