Thanks Samuel. Could you advise, do the techs get in there with a crimping tool to attach the lug? Doesn't look like a lot of space or extra cable to work with.

They use a pretty big crimping tool. There is enough room to move the cable around to attach it with the tool.

So, can you confirm if the bad cable is the one closest to the front of the vehicle, or if it's the one behind it?
If it is the one behind, do you know if the cable can be repaired without removing the fusebox?

The fusebox is easy, pops right out, the inverter not so much if it has to be moved.

If you get a chance, can you see if Ford has issued a service advisory or a TSB about this issue? Many dealers do not have a clue how to solve this problem.

I'm still not sure if it has been 100% verified that the bad cable is the one closest to the windshield, the one with the black cover that is opened by sliding sideways (as opposed to the front one in which the cover swivels straight up.

There is no recall or TSB from Ford (yet)

It is being discussed on the Ford Message boards and sense the battery cables are on back order, they are crimping a lug on the end as an interem repair until more guidence is given from Ford. Not all techs/SA's are on the FMC board so they might not be aware of the issue.

If anybody is looking for the cable lug in question, the very first post on this thread, guy has a good pic of the connection in question.
This is just one place that members are reporting as a bad connection. Theres also underneath this cable where another cable attached to the bus bar, then i have heard others talking about bad connection at the HVB relays. So the only sure way is to troubleshoot with a DVM to know which connection is defective.
Its the connection under the black plastic cover becomes disconnected/bad connection.

The cable comes from back of engine compartment/firewall and LOOPS up and forward then down to this location. Thats why i was offering if you have a dead battery you could possibly grab and wiggle this cable for a better connection. Theres tons of pictures in the first post.

Under the black plastic cover is the battery cable with the battery cable lug that has the bad solder connection. As you can see from the pics you can grab the cable and bend it up to reveal all kinds of room to get the huge crimpers in there to crimp it.

Before you perform any work on this connection, go to the battery and disconnect negative battery cable FIRST. As the cables are hot with 12vdc.

I wouldn't crimp one myself, i would solder it and cover with heatshrink. Its not a bad job at all, i have the crimpers and have performed hundreds of cable lugs.

In the old days gone by, you could have got away with crimping, but in this high tech world, with tons of computers and voltage variations critical to digital operation, theres no way i would recomend a mechanical crimp. You might be able to get away with it as a temporary repair, however long run reliability is very questionable?
