I searched, but didn't see anything on this issue.
I stopped to fuel up my hybrid the other day, and the refueling door wouldn't open. I tried shutting the truck off and back on, but that didn't help. I waited to see if it would release after waiting, and that didn't work. The manual said there was a special tool bundled with the jack that you can use to manually release it. Nope, not there. I took it to the dealer, and in the process of repairing the problem, the mechanic found in the shop manual that you can release the door from a pull tab in the wheel well. If you look at approximately 12:00 in the wheel well you'll see a green plastic ring tab. Pull that, and that's it. No special tool required.

Next time stop here first. We would have had you on your way in a jiffy. I’m surprised the release didn’t work inside the truck. Did they say what was wrong?

Thanks. The service Rep didn't know what the problem was. The release button wouldn't move, so I wonder if it was bad.

Thats what that tab is for in the wheel well! Learn something new every day.
Saw that here a while back. Kind of defeats the purpose of a locking fuel door if you think about it. Although on our hybrid, I think it's more about the pressure.

I bet the decision is based on minimizing manufacturing cost.

Here is another trick; this is based on other threads where owners are complaining about the refueling door popping open by mistake. Next time it happens, just pretend there is an item in the bed that you need. Bend over the bed, at the gas filler location, to retrieve the "item" in the bed and the door will open. Or pop a cold drink and lean against the truck while you are talking to your neighbor and, open sesame, it opens.

EDIT: Next poster pointed out; the above "trick" only works on EB's. Seems like there are a lot of things that seem to work better on the EB's!!! At least fewer comments on this forum.

Did you try pushing & holding the fuel door release button?

On the Hybrid, the push button on the lower left must be pushed and held until it releases the fuel door, and it displays Fuel Door Open on the instrument cluster. ....... Just pushing the button and releasing will not open the fuel door. Found this out the first time I filled up. Not mentioned in the OM.
