Reddit mistake

I went on the Maverick sub on Reddit. Unlike this forum where 99% are nice people only 1% are decent on Reddit. I heard that the majority of Redditors are in their 20's and live in their parents basements. That seems to be the case judging from the nastiness. If my sone treated people like they do there I would consider myself a failure as a father. Luckily both my children are super kind and respectful people.

agree. people on reddit are ver unfriendly. I completely understand your frustration; Reddit can be a real cesspool of negativity, and it's definitely not for everyone. The anonymous nature of the platform seems to bring out the worst in some people, which is a shame because there can be good information buried in there. I've found that dedicated forums like this one are much more civil and focused. It's a bit like the need to verify information online, which is why I've used PeopleLooker reviews to understand how to vet people and sources properly.

Understatement of the year. These are societies young adults. They are horrible basement dwellers. America is screwed.

Never will be on that site and still to this day, I've never been on Facebook. Individual specific forums are where I socialize to get & share info on the given subject. Like previously stated ... we're screwed

The observation isn't limited to Reddit.
Anywhere where people can post anonymously and moderation is limited, tends to bring out the worst in people.

Being a loser who only gets a raise when the minimum wage goes up, and lives in their parent's basement probably doesn't help either.

Apparently, 49% of adults in the US under 30 live with their parents as of 2025.
Chances are, some of these are Reddit posters...

Seriously, it's not a matter of fear, but to the OP's point, there are sites that provide a less than uplifting online experience, and Reddit can be one of those depending on the topic.

That's an important multi-generational message that needs to be passed down.
Apparently in many cases, that didn't happen, which could be why there are so many afraid adults still living in their parent's basements posting nasty comments on Reddit...
