Can someone provide the actual instructions Ford sent to the dealer as to how to remove the shutter vanes? My group and internet searches aren't getting me that sort of detail.

The back story: I am still working to get a Demco Towbar baseplate to work properly on my 2023 Lariat Hybrid. We are headed to believing 2 more vanes require removal on each side, just like Ford did for this recall. I believe they can be removed without destroying them.

Side note, whoever provided their Maverick to Demco as the model for their towbar baseplate...your truck is different than the trucks 2 of us have and are trying to get the baseplate to fit. Thus we are struggling to make this work. Removing 4 vanes (that can be replaced if needed) is far preferable to destroying the entire lower system, but we are having issues with the current version of the Demco towing baseplate.

Thanks for any help!

Hi BradnChristine, we traded messages a while back about the Demco baseplate. At that time, it sounded like it could be installed without changes to either the bumper cover or active shutters. Sounds like maybe you got bad info from Demco. I'm still awaiting scheduling for my (now MY24) Lariat Hybrid. Sounds like I may need to rethink which base plate to get whenever my truck is delivered. The Demco sounded good until now. Not really happy about having to cut into the bumper cover (Blue Ox) or the active shutter changes (Roadmaster and now apparently Demco). Leaning toward one of the active shutter changes as that is the recall "solution" anyway.

Please keep us all in the loop about your ultimate solution.

Thanks!!
Jim

Demco and I communicate often as we try to solve this issue and they have been very supportive and proactive with us. They had a hard time getting a model, and the Maverick they finally got to engineer the baseplate was different than the Mavericks of the 2 of us who are currently trying to install them. Without Demco, I'd put on a Blue Ox baseplate.

Today will be the task of grinding a tiny bit of metal off of a reinforcement/spacer plate on the passenger side...to accommodate a spot weld that Ford made on the truck. It is probably a 1/4" circle by no more than .065 deep. Since we don't know why Ford put it there, I'll be taking it off the baseplate instead of grinding it smooth.

Pulling (not breaking) the 4 vanes off (2 on each side) will only enhance the airflow a tiny bit, as the baseplate covers the front of them anyway. Ford removed the 2nd pair from the bottom, and I'll be removing the 3rd and 4th, still allowing the active-shutter to function.

After that, I'll paint the grinding area and then put on the baseplate. If all is well, then I'll set the fascia back in place and test fit everything before locktite-ing the bolts. Keep your fingers crossed!

I found the method was to pull/bend in the middle to pull out the outer tab and then twist 'in' towards the radiator to pop out the peg hooked in the inboard side that actuates the vanes.
