So recently I started noticing a slight “thud” or “thumping” noise at what seems like the rear or underneath the truck when coming to a stop. Usually happens around 10-15 mph and is give or take in severity. Sometimes it’s pretty noticeable in the floorboard and other times I can’t feel at all. Happens right after it downshifts into 1st. Anybody else noticed or had yours looked at already for this ? I’m going to schedule an oil change at Ford and get them to drive it and see if there’s any chance this is something major. Truck drives and shifts like it always has since day 1 but you know when you start hearing something it bothers the hell out of you until you find out what it is.

Are u the first owner?
I do notice the 8 speed is a bit clunky in the lower speeds unless ur in the high revs.

I just noticed the sound in the same scenario. Definitely not the jack behind the seat. Seems like it's from the rear/undercarriage somewhere. I am going to check the spare. It could be sliding forward and back upon breaking/stopping.

It could be from the downshift. Just a normal operation under that condition. I have 2600 miles on it so I am going to monitor the noise.

The truck is running great. 2024 AWD ECOBOOST with 4k tow package.

Thanks.

I think the noise is coming from the read diff when the trans is dow shifting. I switched to sport mode and didn't hear the noise after a road test. First time I used sport mode.
Going to make an appt. with local dealer. There is another thread about a thump noise. Just search: Weird noise and rough idle when slowing down/stopping. This person actually ended up having the AWD unit changed.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

The service appt has been completed. I went on a road test with the lead mechanic from the service dept. We agreed that we are hearing the same sound in normal drive mode when slowing to make a turn or stopping; it's subtle. I suggested to change to sport mode. We switched and drove the same path, the thump was not present. Drove the same route at about the same speed with the same amount of stops and turns.

There are no service bulletins open for the issue at this time.

Mine always happens at 12-13mph. Just a slight thud, seems like right after downshifting into 1st.

The noise I'm hearing is definitely during a downshift in drive mode - when slowing to turn or slowing into traffic.

Switching to sport mode changes the revs/shift pattern. I'v been using Sport mode all weekend and the thump or "thud" as you describe is no longer present.

I’ve tired slippery and tow/haul modes but it doesn’t change anything, sport mode isn’t an option on mine with the fx4 package.

Thanks. I'll try Eco, slippery and tow/haul mode this week and see what happens. Thanks for the information.

Check behind your rear bench seat and underneath in the storage bins. I had the same thing and it turned out to be a wrench I forgot to pick up while working on something.

I had a noise that I was hearing as well, it turned out to be my hitch receiver moving around in the rear bed side storage bins. I added a towel around it to dampen and haven't heard anything since.

Thanks for the reply. No issues with the storage bins. Jack is secure and the spare is secure. It was determined it's related to the drive train. Switching to sport Mode and the noise isn't present. The amount of shifts decreases in sport mode; transmission shifts are differ.

No bulletins from Ford just yet according to FORD service.
