I picked up my '24 hybrid Lariat last night, 11/17/23. I ordered it 9/17/22 when the order banks opened for the '23's. My dealer rolled it over to a 24 using the same order number. I have a price protection certificate number for it for $2500.

Also on 9/17/22 I ordered a 2.0 EB XLT thinking it would get built sooner than the constrained hybrid. When it didn't get built as a '23 I cancelled the order. At that point I had one order pending for the hybrid Lariat.

So yesterday, Friday 11/17/23 when we sat down at the dealer to do the paperwork, my dealer sees two price protection certificates. The second one must have been for the cancelled 2.0 EB because it is for $1900. However, when he tried to apply the $2500 certificate to my hybrid Lariat deal, Smart Vincent played dumb and even after multiple attempts by multiple staff, Smart Vincent turned Dumb Vincent and would only apply $1900 to my purchase. I did conclude the purchase and have the 24 hybrid sitting in my driveway.

Any idea how to proceed to get the $600 still owed me? My dealer will try to correct it come Monday but what steps and whom should I contact to get my rightful price protection as evidenced by a certificate number for $2500?

Congrats on finally getting your Hybrid!

I don't know how accurate this is, but I was told that the private offer certificate in Smart Vincent is tied to a VIN number. If you ordered more than one 2024 Maverick then the certificate would only apply to a specific one. Since you have two certificates in your name, it could be that the $2500 certificate got tied to the wrong VIN.

The dealer would need to contact their rep to figure this out. It might take a few days, but I think you will get a check from Ford or the dealer for the $600 difference.

The question I have is why do you even have the $1900 private offer? To get the $1900 private offer the dealer would have to had put in a new 2024 order for the 2023 EB XLT rollover in your name with COVP. Since you cancelled the 2023 EB XLT then why would it be rolled over?

RE: Why do I even have the $1900 private offer? = that is the head scratcher. My dealer cancelled the order and it was not rolled over to a '24. I did not receive any further notifications from Ford regarding the cancelled XLT 2.0 order but I did receive emails from Ford regarding the progress of my rolled over Lariat hybrid; VIN, window sticker etc. The dealer management was just as perplexed and tried multiple times in Dumb Vincent to apply the $2500 certifcate that corresponded to my build but DV always defaulted to the certificate for $1900, the amount for 23-->24 XLT 2.0 roll over orders.

Perhaps the dealer didn't cancel the extra order and kept it as a lot vehicle order. Re notifications, the notification email address could have been changed on the order, which would 'splain the no more notifications to you.

Could well be this.

Hi and that is certainly a possibility. The dealer claims they cancelled the XLT order. I cancelled the XLTwhen the order bank for 24's opened and they asked me if I wanted to roll over my two 23 orders to 24 orders. The fact that there is a certificate for it and the certificate comes up when my hybrid Lariat comes up under my name is a strong indication that order # was assigned a VIN and produced. That also means the dealer had to use my i.d. in the COVP process to transition from 23-->24 and like you said, changed the email on that order. Hmmm.

Could the dealer then claim the $2500 PO?

RE: Could the dealer claim the certificate? = quite possibly, then put it in inventory and not tell the customer. From what I understand, the certificate $$ are subtracted from the selling price, not the dealer cost. But I'm sure the certificate is tied to a specific VIN. I am about to phone Ford on a busy Monday. Ultimately I will post back when there is a resolution. I want my $600!

Following. I may have a similar situation when I go to back up my ‘24 which is now in production.

--> I will post back as things progress. Monday is obviously a very busy day for Ford Customer Service so I hung up when the system said the wait was 30+ min.

Can someone with experience at a Ford dealership help me understand how Smart Vincent works? Specifically in the case of program #32168 titled "23MY to 24MY Maverick Retail Transition Private Offer" where a certificate number for a VIN has been generated and shows in Smart Vincent for the specific vehicle?

Question: Does the dealer get the full amount of the certificate credited to them by Ford after the sale?

Question: Can the dealer choose to give the customer a lesser amount after activating the certificate than the full value of the certificate and keep the difference? Or activate and not pass on anything to the customer, keep the entire amount?

Question: When the dealer activates a specific Private Offer certificate in Smart Vincent and subtracts an amount on the customer's purchase, does Ford know anything other than the certificate has been claimed and Ford credits the full amount to the dealer?

Question: If a customer has a certificate, does the credit belong to the customer or to the dealer? If a customer with a certificate decides not to purchase the vehicle, can the dealer still claim the certificate if they sell the vehicle to someone other than who was verified via the COVP for that order?

Question: Anything else I should know about how Price Protection works before going back to the dealer to get the remaining $600 they didn't credit to me at time of purchase? Or am I SOOL after the sale?

Try Tim Bartz @fordvideoguy he works at Long McArthur in Kansas and has helped many folks here on MTC with questions about Ford order process.

Also, you might find some of your answers in this video:

Yes, I did contact Long McArthur and his partner Sara Davis returned my call to confirm that the $$$ go to the dealer and the dealer passes it on to the customer.

My private offer rebate didn't get applied to the sale, I thought it was a rebate and drove home with the truck. Later the dealer had to talk with some marketing team to get it taken care of. Had to sign something which had the certificate# and Ford sent me a check for the private offer within a week.
-Of course it took several trips to talk with the dealership to keep them pestering Ford about it.

Seems dealerships don't cancel orders- especially for hard to get vehicles like Mavericks! Doesn't cost them anything to resell it to someone else (except a hit on their private orders going to the wrong customer numbers...)

... and all that is why I have more appreciation than before for the IRS and the DMV. At least you got your $$$$ quickly and they didn't feed you a bunch of lies. The best lie my dealer told was "Ford changed the program" and when I asked to see the correspondence from FoMoCo they claimed, "we can't show it to you, it's confidential correspondence" .
