I have the ford copilot. Trying to figure out how precolission assost and AEB works. Is it something I've got to turn on, or an always on feature?
I'm curious how it functions. Any idea how i could test it out in a safe way (without risking damaging my truck?)
I've pulled up real close to fixed objects and haven't heard a peep. Would like to know how it works.

It's always on an resets after each ignition cycle. It uses the camera behind the mirror and the radar in the grille (on models with adaptive cruise) to ID people and cars and determine distance/ whether or not you're at risk of an accident. It usually doesn't work at super low speeds. The best way to "test" it out would be to just wait for a real world situation to happen. I've noticed with my other cars that have had it, that it's really hard to trick. With Ford's, you'll get a beep/red flashing alert in the gauge cluster. Every time I've ever had it kick on in my Subaru, I've already been on the brakes and the car just added more braking pressure to keep a safe distance between me and the car in front of me. I'll have to admit it saved me the other day when I looked down at my watch as I was expecting an important message. I didn't see the car in front of me slowing down and heard the beeping/felt the braking all within a second or so. My Subaru seems to have a really sensitive system, so I'm curious how the Maverick's will be.

It saved my butt a couple times already. When it thinks you're going to crash the dash flashes red and it sets off a tone. I didn't notice any automatic braking but it may just be because I slam on the brakes anyway. I don't know if it works with a camera or what I don't see any sensors in the grill.

All the settings are in the control center on the gauge cluster it should be set to on from the factory but you can change the sensitivity or turn it off. I also turned on all the lane keeping stuff and turn the intensity up on that. I've never used Lane assist before but it's pretty nice it'll pull you back into the lane if you start to drift and the steering wheel vibrates.

You have cross traffic alert too when you are backing up it'll set off an alarm if somebody's driving behind you but it doesn't have a park assist which I don't really get why it would have one without the other.

You can also turn on and off the automatic high beams, I thought that was cool at first but it quickly got annoying and I turned mine off. Now I just wish they included a setting for the start stop feature.

@codavis2 , @B_kiz Ford description also claims it can prevent a maverick from hitting a pedestrian. Has it ever beeped at you for that? I'd really like to experience how it works. I think experiencing it in action would make me feel much safer if my teen drivers ever use the Mav.

Mine has alerted me to my dog passing in front of the car while I was moving forward. I’ll take that as a good pedestrian alert.

Ford failed the IIHS test bad, but that was a couple years ago. Dunno if they have made improvements:

Im thinking of covering a giant cardboard stove box in aluminum foil and see if it I can drive through it. seems like we have to do our own highway safety tests.

The better way might be to have someone throw the box in front of the vehicle as you drive by.

It's turned off when you get it you enable it through the menu on the dash. You use the steering wheel menu buttons on the right. Once turned on it can auto brake when you don't brake leasing the impact not stopping it. It flashes red and does a doh do noise I have a 1 way bridge while cats stop on the power end you cross it thinks you will crash when it gets close apparently it doesn't know the road turns there. It's the same for the lane keep it can warn only or you can enable alert and steer you have to turn that option on with a button on the left side of the wheel the turn signal knob. It can alert only or alert and steer when the lines are on the dash it's active it does randomly stop working depending on the road and you have to be going highway speeds it doesn't work at slow speeds. Bump a line it turns the wheel slightly to correct if you turn harder you can over power it if you have to. Almost ran over a branch because it was like nope stay in the lines. So it can have a slight drawback I did go around the branch but it was Sligh harder to do since it.
ffwhen.its on the speed gage moves to the right and is smallerfights you slightly. Turn signals disable it so try to.go off an off ramp and you will see how it fights so your not surprised by it

I just found out tonight. Some crazy b@$ch slammed her brakes on after I turned left at a set of lights. It was dark of course I didn’t even see her braking. It stopped me from hitting her. What a game changer in vehicles.
