Last weekend I filled up my gas tank in my 23 EB Lariat AWD. The miles to empty "mtoE" read 352. I drove 160 miles up and over the Cascade mountains. When I got to my destination the mtoE read 325 miles. Apparently, I had only used about one gallon of gas on the trip. Unlikely I know.

Anybody know how this system works or why there would be an apparent error in the estimated mileage left? Maybe I just get great gas mileage!

I think it only uses the last 50 miles of your driving or so to estimate how far it can go on what you have.

So if you were driving aggressively before you filled up, but then drove more efficiently for a while you'll see your tank suddenly appears to stretch farther.

It's the past 250 miles averaged x 13.8 for the hybrid and x 16.5 for the ecoboost.

On your trip meters the XLT hybrid holds about 2500 miles of data before the memory is full then the oldest data is overwritten if you never reset.

Almost certainly all the trucks work the same.

FWIW the Hybrid holds more than 13.8 gallons and the EB holds more than 16.5.
Those are the numbers assumed to be minimum, what you can count on.
