I lived in Taiwan for several years and my wife is Taiwanese. I was even on the cover or TSMC's (Taiwan Semiconductor) annual stock report one year ;-) I went through several fairly large hurricanes/typhoons when I lived there both in Hsinchu (where TSMC is) and Taipei. As a general rule, they are prepared for this. All the houses are made of cinder-block and built to be both hurricane and earthquake "resistant". South Taiwan (where most of the food is grown) will probably see about a week of flooding. TSMC is fairly protected so won't be effected (and many of the people working there live in on-campus dorms). The chip fab is also double walled so won't have a problem. The are a couple of areas around Taipei that pretty much flood every year. I would expect these places to have a day or two of major flooding (the international news will probably show these places on the news) but then it goes away pretty quickly. During one storm the road in front of my apartment was 6 feet under water in the morning, but was dry by the afternoon, and people driving on it that night. Already talked to my in-laws in both South and North Taiwan and everyone is taking "normal" precautions. They are used to this. Some are actually happy since this may bring a little drought relief and refill some of the reservoirs. This may actually help chip production in the short to medium-term.
