Any suggestions on a quality portable frig/freezer? Mainly used for monthly shopping. Plan on using it in the bed of the Maverick, which has a power outlet. Small enough to fit in the bed with the bed cover locked in over it.. I want to be able to put mostly frozen foods in for safe keeping while running around shopping and then for the return trip home. The idea is to keep frozen and refrigerated foods cold until I’m able to get home and put items away. Secondary use would be for traveling to hold picnic and Barbecue items, taking the place of an “ice chest”.

Sorry for the delayed response but if you arent doing hardcore long term camping. I would go simple and order a cheap one off amazon. The electronics and compressors are mostly all the same so just get one with the best looking (thickest) case that fits your budget. You should find a decent one around $300.

Curious, but with a vehicle starting up and shutting down, doesn't it take a while to cool down and be useful? How would this work?

You plug the 12 volt compressor fridge into 115 volt ac power at home before you leave on your camping trip to cool it down.

When your ready to leave you can plug it into one of the 12 volt power ports in your truck which will will keep it cool while you drive to your destination.

When your arrive at your camping spot plug your fridge into a portable power station. You can recharge your power station with fold-able solar panels for longer stays.

Amazon and Costco sell 50-100 watt fold up solar panels that can be simply attached to a cheap 12v deep cycle marine battery(the ones with bolts and posts). From there you can run the fridges off a either a 12volt pig tail plug or a small inverter 150 watt is the minimum I have used on a fridge. Also if you have battery powered tools or mowers or weed wackers the companies that make those often have inverters. The only one I have tried is a Ryobi 150 watt inverter. It will run a fridge in hot weather for about 50 min on 1-18v 4ah battery. The bigger ones for yard tools and mowers will likely run it for like 4 hours. If you have Ego they have a powerstation that lets you hook up a solar panel and up to 4 batteries of any size. Comes with plenty of ports. Like others said there are many portable power stations out there. but they are quite expensive. Personally a $100 marine battery, $100 inverter, $100 fold up solar panel with built in charge controller, and a $50 weather resistant box to put it in will run your fridge near indefinitely. Atleast a 3 full days with decent sun as I have done before.

I wont camp and run it solely off my battery unless there is another vehicle to jump me in the morning. Just not something I trust.

That's a good one. I bought a 23 qt AstroAI last month on sale for $208. Very similar to this BougeRV. Probably made at the same factory in china.

I would have bought it already but I'm still waiting for my Maverick. Been a year now. Perhaps by Christmas?

I do not have a compressor fridge but do have one that uses an electronic chip. Will do ambient plus or minus 40 degrees. Prob not as cold as one that uses a compressor. But good for drinks.

I had one of those thermoelectric coolers. It used a lot of power and wouldn't keep my beer cold enough on hot 100+ days at the Ranch.

My 12 volt compressor fridge works much better. One thing I found handy with the thermoelectric is you can use it as a food warmer when taking hot food to a picnic or other gathering.
