A proper 'tie down' attachment would not place the threads of the attachment in shear, it would place the bolt in shear. So I would agree this bracket may serve another purpose. I would find another load pointwas not designed for tie-downs or recovery hooks. Recovery tie-down provisions are designed into the frame rails in the form of oval holes.
Truly a neat video to watch. I wish it was a more complete record of a Maverick being created from the beginning.Mine has the bracket on only the drivers side as well. Maybe the bracket on the passenger side is used at the factory for the machines to lift / spin the frame during assembly and is removed after final assembly while the drivers side is left for freight purposes. Only a guess on my part.
I remember watching a ford factory maverick assembly video on youtube a while back...maybe it will show the brackets in use. Ill see if i can find it again.
Edit: here is the video...
