About 400 lbs. is used in your truck. Plastic use in vehicles has been increasing over the years. It's cheap and can be used in many areas of a vehicle. Plastics in today's cars will still be used in car parts 20, 30 and even 40 years' time despite there being an average of 208 kilos of plastic in a car, currently, a mere 19 per cent of it is recycled. Aside from Auto production, in the US we use:



It clogs streams. It chokes turtles. It gets caught on a bare branch and blows in the breeze. It stews in landfills.

But it is also a climate pollutant. From the extraction of fossil fuels to make polymers to the transport and disposal of the waste, single-use plastics produced 450 million metric tons of planet-warming greenhouse gases in 2021 alone

In total, we use 100 million tons of plastic every year. Some 10 percent of this plastic end up in the oceans. An estimated 300 million plastic bags every year end up in the Atlantic Ocean alone.

i love my Maverick...just pointing out the dilemma we all live with weather we like it or not. Plastic has its upsides but also the downsides..I have no answers except I do try to recycle (very limited plastics that are recycled ) Open to ideas..

Maybe Mr. Musk can put his childish ambitions aside and solve the problem for all humanity! On his dime, of course.

Seriously, I do what I can (which ain't much) and live a pretty simple life. I recycle, and take household chemicals, old electronics, batteries, etc. in annually to be properly disposed of.

We are all consumers, and take what we can get (and afford). Bill Gates, Al Gore and John Kerry are no exceptions and I can guarantee their carbon and likely their plastic footprints are much larger than mine.

It's not as bad as the mess all these hybrid and electric car batteries will be once they end up in a land fill and start polluting our ground water. At least plastic can be strained out from the water unlike heavy metals.

Why would they end up in a land fill? They are valuable to recycle.

Bottom line...many don't believe there are any problems with plastic pollution..some do, but are not inclined to do much, and then very few take some kind of action. Have a nice day.

Nope ment I don't stand by and do nothing. I try to show how bad plastics are and that it is difficult to live without plastics in my life, just the same as other people.
