As everyone might already know we have a total solar eclipse cutting across US and Candida on April 8th. So what are your plans?
My house is close to the center of the path.

I live on the NW side of Columbus, OH and my little suburb just squeaks into the area of full totality and we would get about 1:20 of full totality.

However if I head north about an hour to my friend's parents property (60ac) they are within a mile of the centerline and will experience 3:56 of full totality.

They say that 1 hr drive will take 4-5 hours if attempting the day of totality. So we're heading up the night before to do some cold weather camping in my hot tent.

So what are your plans?
If the weather forecast looks good, I plan on driving out from Oregon to West Texas to see it. No doubt I'll encounter a million others who have the same idea. But if I make it, it'll be my third total eclipse. Here is a photo I took from the 2017 eclipse in central Oregon.

I'm in the nope zone and fine with that.

My 17 y/o wanted to go on a science class field trip to somewhere in Oklahoma, 5+ hours via school bus. I think the teacher is nucking futs, leaving at like 4:00 AM and then returning around 10 PM. I think I convinced him that it was a pretty terrible idea to go through that kind of ordeal for something that lasts 7 minutes, but he is a teenager, so we'll see. :ROFLMAO:

More like four and a half minutes tops for this one. And if you’ve never seen a total eclipse, I can understand your reluctance. But believe me, a total eclipse is the most awesome natural event you’ll ever have the chance to witness, by far. Unless you count the ones that might also kill you. 😱

Tinted isnt enough even in the totality area. You need the eclipse glasses too. Believe it or not this applies to cameras as well.

And make sure they're well sourced glasses too and not old ones. The material ages so old glasses I've heard wont work.

This is an all or nothing operation.

A partial eclipse is nothing.
A total eclipse is everything.

It is very short but very worth it to be on centerline.

It's worth the effort to drive to the centerline.

Do it if you can.

I did Baja California in 1991. (6.5 minutes)

I did Eastern Oregon in 2017.

I'll probably sit this one out.
But everyone should see one.

If you want to know what a black hole looks like, get to centerline.
