Park to reverse click

Just got my 2023 Maverick XL and it makes a loud click behind the steering wheel only when I go from park to reverse or from reverse to park. I can also feel the click from the steering wheel. Anyone know what causes this? Is this a issue or normal?

It's the transmission shifting in a truck with no sound deadening material. You can hear EVERYTHING happening in these trucks.

could be the parking pawl in the transmission.

There is no reverse gear in the hybrid. It uses electric only to back up.

That would explain why one time while coasting down hill in neutral and I accidentally put it in reverse it didn’t mess up anything. Seeing the back up camera on screen is what made me realize what I’d done.

You could still destroy the drive motor doing that, since the motors have to spin in a different direction to go in reverse.

lol the first time I heard that I was waiting in a parking lot and had turned everything off. When it started all the clicks I thought a bird was hopping around on the roof, I’m sure people were confused/amused when they saw me sticking my hand through the sunroof trying to scare away the annoying “bird”.

Yeah when I shift into reverse from drive after stopping, there can be a little delay and a loud click/clunk before reverse kicks in. Is this normal on the Maverick?
