I got my 2022 XL hybrid back from a oil change and crawled under to make sure everything was buttoned up. I found oil dripping from the timing chain side of the motor, towards the top and down the block and onto the pan bolts — also on one of the wiring harnesses. Hard to believe it’s oil sweat from the weather since it’s covering one of the wiring harnesses. Anyone have experience with this? I have an appointment with a dealer in two weeks to check it out. Doesn’t look like the valve cover gasket, maybe head gasket? Hard to tell without removing the passenger side wheel and belly pan.

i’m at 16,000 miles, all recalls up-to-date except for the airbag recall.

We found the issue and it’s being fixed under warranty.

the axle or CV boot had a tear and was slinging grease around. Once the grease got hot, it all dripped it’s way to the pan and other areas, looking like oil. Tech is ordering a new boot and repairing soon.

I’m sure they won’t do a great job cleaning it all up so I’ll spray brake clean and wipe it down. If it returns, that’s another story.

Check your axle boots I guess

I am surprised the boot is serviceable, usually a bad boot requires replacement of the whole shaft assembly unless you use a janky aftermarket split boot.

If it were me I'd start asking questions.

Glad to hear they are fixing it and hope they do a decent job cleaning up. CV boots can fail for all sorts of reasons - road debris or rubbing.
I just checked mine at the most recent oil change and very glad I did!

Yup, I’ll ask about the replacement parts. They had to order a few parts so o think it may be the whole assembly

What did you find?

The whole assembly lists for $149, you should inquire and insist. It is your vehicle. The labor to remove the axle and replace just the boot is probably more than just replacing the assembly. I also remember those crappy split boots designed to replace a torn boot without having to remove the axle. The split boots really DO NOT seal very well. Good luck!

I have a 22 hybrid Lariat, 22,000 mi. I had it in for an oil change today, and upon inspection they found oil leaking from the timing chain cover. I'm on vacation in Florida, they're going to order the parts and they expect to keep the vehicle for about 10 days, thankfully they're going to give me a loaner, but now I'm stuck here. I'm super disappointed in the quality of this vehicle, nothing but problems, at least I haven't had to pay for any of the repairs!
