Oil Leak at 5500

My saga continues with my Maverick...

I took my Maverick in at 5300 to get an oil change at a Ford Quick Lane and told them of a potential leak. They said there was "no leak" at 5300 even though I had been seeing large spots under my truck. This lead me to discovering that my TFL oil had over flowed from a simple check.

After calling several Ford dealerships none had appointments available until late May in the immediate area... I found a dealership two hours away that could get me in this Friday...

After "checking" my car over they determined that it was just the ATF leaking... And sent me on my way...

Once I got home I still discovered that I was leaking fluid... Still... After bringing it in twice...

I finally decided do go out an buy ramps to check things out myself... This leak is bad... It's most definitely started before my oil change.

I'm guessing PCV is clogged which may be causing the issue? But who knows... Now I have to drive two hours and take another unpaid day off of work, again...
All to hopefully fix the issue that's been overlooked twice now.

Moral of the story is, don't trust any Ford dealerships.

Well, almost a month later... I'm still dealing with the issue.

After taking the truck in on April 24th I finally got an answer two weeks later on May 8th. They were finally able to locate the issue on the back side of the oil pan. It's a small mark. I honestly think it's a manufacturing defect, as I haven't driven it off road, and there are no other impact markings. Not to mention anything that would have had to hit the pan would have gone through the metal skid plate under the vehicle. When I originally took the skid plate off I also found a bolt just sitting on top of it. The Ford dealership confirmed that the bolt was never installed. The vehicle was marked as "not leaking oil" when I noticed a leak and brought it into an oil change with a ford quick lane on April 12th.

Either way it took them two weeks alone to tell me that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. To add insult the injury, the dealership is trying to charge me 2362.50 in labor... For an oil pan... This has led me to initiate a claim with my insurance company. Which somehow have been so much more helpful than Ford. However, in order to do that I'll need a warranty claim denial letter from Ford. However, I have been thus far unsuccessful in getting the letter from them.

Anyone else had to replace an oil pan? While it's not quick, I'd say the 13.5 hours they're quoting me at is ridiculous... And at $175 an hour.

What a rip-off. If one of the techs had to go to the bathroom and took six minutes it cost you $17.50?? A tube of sealant cost over $52 to apply to a $10 gasket? Did they give an estimate before you told them to fix it?? A labor guide per type of job exists and should show hours needed to do the job. That is what the estimate should have been based on. This is really sad and sorry. Fixed Ford Tough!

I would have told them to pound sand if presented with that bill.

Demand a written denial of warranty, then send that to Ford. I don't see how this is your fault.

CG - this was the quote so sadly it's not fixed yet. Still leaking oil.

ValenciaOrange - essentially they gathered some further basic info and transfered me to a rep on the phone with a case number. Sadly the rep has been extremely unprofessional and unempathetic the entire time. The first conversation I had with them they became angry as they could not understand what I was saying when I was giving her my address. I was in a louder area but it's no reason to become upset... She's also audibility yawned several times while on the phone and has not suggested anything or been any help. I've been the driving force in trying to get my truck fixed.

BGN - supposedly they're claiming that they need to lift the engine out to replace the oil pan on the FX4. I fail to see why however... Maybe the water pump gets in the way? (As pictured below... Picture is not Maverick) The dealership has also refused to get me a denial of warranty letter. They claim "Ford won't give them one." I've tried to call Ford several times. I get forwarded to an independent extended warranty line and sit on hold for hours.

I'm taking it to another dealership tomorrow that's also two hours away. The secondary dealership has already been more responsive. We'll see what they have to say then...

It looks like the oil is coming from a higher location.

What brought me to this thread is I did my second oil change today with 6,700 miles on the engine and I noticed some oil on one of the oil pan bolts on the front of the engine. I could see that there was oil residue running from above, but haven't located where it was leaking from yet. I am going to keep an eye on it. I do wish I had taken a picture before cleaning it all up (there was residue all the way to the bottom of the pan), but I am assuming I'll have another chance.

Never had a brand new engine leak before... Not even ones I've built. Unless it's a major issue, I'll locate and fix it myself. If it is a major issue, I'll warranty and offload the truck. I don't want a vehicle after a tech has worked on it. I've seen way too many shoddy jobs from all types (local shops, dealerships, etc).

Would like to know what happened a year later.

This whole thing makes no sense. Multiple people can't see an obvious leak. Then, something went "around" the skid plate and made an impact? And a bolt that was never installed but somehow is sitting on top of the skid plate that has been off multiple times.

What a poor customer service experience.

I did another oil change today and noticed more oil that has leaked. I used my snake camera and it looks like it's coming from the turbo oil feed.

Wow just wow! So sorry for your bad experience. I am baffled by the insane $$$ amount to reseal or swap an oil pan.
When doing the 100k service, a big one…(at Mercedes dealer where I worked) for my wife’s fusion energi, a tech helped me do it for dealer insurance purposes. As we were working he said you need a timing cover reseal. He was a used car tech there. So the car was a certified used with 98k. I took it in to ford and told the service writer what the tech said, he said ok and did it under warranty. 7/100 warranty on cert used.

I have a 24 Mav and my wife has a 23 Edge. I have not been under either one of those, but I spent considerable time under her 15 Escape. There was about 200 sq ft of plastic you had to remove to ease oil and filter change. (I had the complete front end off reparing rat/squirrel damage). So if that was impact damage to your oil pan, how much of that plastic was broken or destroyed when the impact occurred???
